Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #181: Holidaze

Sigh. Stuck at work, because a certain carrier insists on sending a truck with 3-4 pallet spaces, when we need 3x that. Waiting for another truck, and no clue when they will show up. Plus, can't get the Gopher game on the radio, due to it being a warehouse. Too much interference. :(

I'll miss half the game for sure. Blech.

Being this years Gophers, I'd say you won't be missing anything.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #181: Holidaze

Ugh. The carrier finally showed up at 6:10. With a cube truck, not a semi-truck. For 7 pallets' worth of stuff. Filled THAT sumbeech and had to load the truck by hand. Helped the driver load up, so I could get out a bit sooner. Still took about half hour.

Got home in time for the 3rd period, heard the Gophers tie it up only to lose in OT. So *HT for me tonight. I need a friggin' drink.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #181: Holidaze

:) How is the stretch treating you?

Survived the 6 in a row and the holidays. On 5 of 6 now because I'm a sucker (and I didn't look at my schedule) - one of the nurses wanted to go away to Harry Potter world for a short trip and I agreed to swap her Monday for my Thursday, but didn't look closely at my calendar. Now I'm on tonight, Saturday night, Sunday night, Monday night, off Tuesday night, and on again on Wednesday. Spoke with the husband - I'm just going to keep my overnight schedule on Tuesday (rather than a normal schedule). We're going to the movies and then he'll go to bed and I'll...do laundry? clean? play with my new Cricut machine (finally)? read (Outlander...ZOMG).

Otherwise, things are good. I joined the @Night committee for our hospital. It's brand new after the CNO went to a national conference and there were a bunch of presentations on it. She is a former night nurse, so I'm sure that she's aware of some of the issues. Our meetings are at 0200, which is awesome when you're working (and your charge nurse doesn't have an assignment and can watch your peeps), but I'm unlikely to attend if I'm not already scheduled... I am also a part of the Unit Based Council which meets to discuss issues in our department (I got talked into it/pressured into it by my preceptor).

Outlander- ZOMG- my totally favorite of all time series of books. Read it at least 6+ times now. My family comes from where Jamie came from.

You will be good at the committee thing.

HHT. Pretended to listen to the game while I charted. I will not be missing the 14+ hour days with salary paying me for 8 of those hours and the rest is me taking one for the team

I'm only on book 1, but my patient on Tuesday had a 2.5 hour MRI and I was flying through the pages (I'm loving it! though not where she gets suckerpunched in the gut - that sucked).

I think the committee thing is good for the resume. I'm so green that I don't have tons to add (both green to nursing and to Lahey), but I also think that it is a good way to get to know people.

I actually got to watch some BU hockey last night - first time this season :o:o

Watched the game, looked like the Goofs dominated. Watching ASU in a half empty building. 5 games on tonight.

Good evening Lodge.

Just finished up planning an ice fishing trip up north next week. Leave Wednesday night and I will be back in time for the Vikings to kick azz against AZ and then to play at home for the NFC championship against Sharon Rodgers or the skins.

Clown, did you get your sh*tter replaced? As a son of a plumber I have been there done that.............
Post your fishing body count when you get back. What lake?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #181: Holidaze

Weather permitting we will fish Red Lake Thursday. Friday Leech Lake. Saturday to be determined.

I miss Leech Lake. There used to be a resort up there that my family went to year after year. Running water was about the only amenity. Fireplace was your heat and light, IIRC. So beautiful. Especially when you could watch a summer T-storm roll in over the lake....

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #181: Holidaze

*ht. Sounds like they were rusty, looked a little better as game went on.

Looks like I'll get the weekend off of moving, going to be nasty from New Orleans to Mobile until Monday or Tuesday.

There are some really intense scenes in that book. The sucker punch in the gut is the least of it.

Sometimes the green people aren't stuck in the way things are supposed to be and their open mind is the thing that finds answers.

*HT.

I feel like I'm honestly starting to hit my breaking point with UAA. I honestly don't know how long I can keep doing this. 15+ years, 3 different coaches, absolutely no sign of long term progress, and an athletic department and booster club that doesn't seem to care. It's just starting to feel like there is no point to it all. :(

I was at that point after only 1 coach and 5 years (3 of which were as brutal as it gets). It takes an AD who has the courage and confidence to level with alums, gain their trust, and shake them out for the money needed to fund a competitive program. Sanregret/Tech finally did it. Does UAA have the intestinal fortitude to do the needful?

I don't think so. UAA's problems go beyond the Athletic Department and start at the University itself (and politics at the state level as well). And UAA doesn't have wealthy alums it can lean on, heck I wouldn't be surprised if Jay Beagle is the highest earning alum (and I mean all alums not just hockey players). Corporate sponsorship is already fairly well maxed out.

It's really beginning to seem like, no matter what, UAA can't compete and the whole operation is pointless.

edit: Looking at Google, Jay Beagle makes $1.45 million a year. I'd say my guess is likely correct.
