Re: Rep Retirement Lodge: 17th Edition: Summer Isn't Just A Stripper's Name

I learned how to drive a stick 3 on the tree. One time......My dad brought me along to visit some friends of his. He got lit. I was like 9 or 10 years old. When it was time to go my dad tossed me the keys and said "it all yours". 15 miles or so all back roads. Piece of cake. Mom was not impressed. ;)

The first car I drove with a stick was a mid-90's Mustang GT. After stalling out about 5 times trying to back out of a driveway, I was fine.

I didn't know you were from Wisconsin.

Holy hell. Little gII birthday today. Five of his friends were invited over for a party/sleepover. They are bonkers. I wish I had half their energy. Holy hell.

We are down to four as one of them missed his mommy and had to leave. :)

It's all fun and games until the S&SS comes out.

Different times. I grew up sitting on my dads lap helping him shift or steer or both (no seat belts or car seats or booster seats :)). Periodically he would take the back roads and let us drive or he would take his truck out on the "back 40" and let us practice. By the time I was 9 or 10 I was a seasoned vet. :) did I mention that I used to carry a sidearm while three wheeling when I was 11 or 12? :D

Iron Range/northern MN. That's the way it was.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge: 17th Edition: Summer Isn't Just A Stripper's Name

Iron range? Take that back. Now if I had relations with my sister then I would probably be a ranger or from Wisconsin. :)

It's not metro, so it's just about all the same to me. :p

Honestly, get out of the 3 major metro areas of MN (TC, Rochester, Duluth) and that is what it's like.

Don't know how to drive stick, because no need. My brother learned on an old International truck (my aunt boards horses, that was the ranch vehicle), and none of the gauges worked, so he had to go by the sound of the engine.

That's what you eventually go off of anyway. To learn that way ids impressive though.

He's a gearhead now, so in hindsight it makes perfect sense.

Waiting for the storms...apparently sh* is gonna happen.

They still make stick shifts? Is it the 1940s?

High end sports cars especially, although they have modified to steering wheel clutchless shifting (someone correct me if I'm wrong, and I'm sure I'm partially wrong).

My car has a manual transmission that doesn't have a clutch. It depresses me. I want my clutch back, especially with my commute being short.

Good Morning, MEUSA! :)

Good Morning to the rest of tLodge! :)

Good morning, but I'm sure I'll go back to bed at some point. Half my apt has power. Fridge works, but have to use the glow of my cell phone screen to use the bathroom. Thankfully the interwebs still work. Those were some decent storms last night.

A couple years ago they were down to about 7% of sales, but that's gone up a bit recently. There are a few models of cars that have seen sales grow because they offer a stick, like the VW GTI, because you get performance and fun without being $30K or more.
