Still have an hour and a half til I take off. Wine Bottle empty. 10 hour flight. Ugh.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge: 17th Edition: Summer Isn't Just A Stripper's Name

Evening, Lodge!

I had the trifecta of bad things within 2 hours tonight. Found out my aunt has been moved to hospice. Another aunt has a mast on her lung. That is tbd. Either way, f u cancer! Then on my way home from work, my tire blew out. Fortunately, I was only 2 blocks away from an auto shop. I owe the manager a 6 pack for letting me in right before they closed.

Beer is going down like water tonight. Gave a heads up to work that I will not be in tip top shape tomorrow morning. They completely understand.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge: 17th Edition: Summer Isn't Just A Stripper's Name

LWB: That blows. :(

Grey: yeah, they had an article in the Star Diaper about shooting movies in the metro area earlier this week, IIRC.

Still figuring out what my new MP3 player can do. It holds about 120 hours of music (if my math is correct; it's 16GB), and thankfully it sorts it all out awesomely, but my lack of library maintenance is showing (library was started about 20 years ago...yeah). MOST of the tracks are properly labeled, but the ones that aren't...hoo boy. Finding them is a needle in a haystack situation.

There was a similar tizzy when we had tax credits for the film industry in Michigan/Detroit. State just voted to end those tax breaks last week, after questionable returns, and a couple of failed studios that promised "lots of jorbs".

But hey, enjoy "Batman vs. Superman" or whatever that crap they're promoting is, courtesy of the Michigan taxpayers. Maybe play "Spot the Detroit Landmark" when you get bored with the predictable plot.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge: 17th Edition: Summer Isn't Just A Stripper's Name

Is it Tuesday? Sorry LWB. Lil also called with a blown out tire tonight. Yikes. In a very bad neighborhood. SO bad the cop stayed until Mr les got there.
THe rest of the day also sucked. I need it to be a week from now.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge: 17th Edition: Summer Isn't Just A Stripper's Name

Good Morning, MEUSA! :)

Good Morning to the rest of tLodge! :)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge: 17th Edition: Summer Isn't Just A Stripper's Name

Good Morning, Lodge!

As a result of my tire popping, I am up early to give Mr a ride to work then go to work myself. At least I'm off at 2 today so we are able to use his car.

Good Morning Lodge.

Jr learned to drive a manual yesterday. A friend took him out in a parking lot in his light pick-up. Now he thinks he's an expert after an hour with a clutch.

Till he stalls trying to shift at a light as it turns green and 7 cars are honking at him to get moving. :D

Need to learn this. Want an MX-5 or a Vette someday, maybe one of the new 5.0 Mustangs. Know the ideas behind it, just never done it in person.

My dad worked in a car part plant all his life and was somewhat of a gearhead. You'd figure he'd be THRILLED when his son asked him to teach him to drive a stick. He just said "Why do you need to learn that? Everything's automatic today."

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge: 17th Edition: Summer Isn't Just A Stripper's Name

He's going to stall on a race track first. I bought him a "Racing Experience" groupon for Christmas and Sunday he'll get to drive on a dirt track.

The terror that fills his eyes once he realizes that different makes and models have different friction points, some being more "forgiving" than others when not getting that gas/clutch rate quite right could fill your eyes with tears of laughter - if you're willing to laugh at your boy. My mom would've been bent over, laughing so hard and slapping her knee if it were me. :)

He talked about how the pick-up clutch had 5" of travel before anything started to engage, I doubt that'll be the case with a race car.

I learned to drive a stick with 13 speed Eaton/Fuller behind a CAT 3208. Yeah. ****ty.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge: 17th Edition: Summer Isn't Just A Stripper's Name

Also, finally back in MN. Waiting for my wife to pick me up at the airport. She's stuck in crappy Minneapolis traffic.

I never had to use the H and L switches that I saw on my employer's 10-speed dump truck. It didn't look overly complicated, but just one more thing to get used to in that behemoth.

You could've hopped onto the light rail and not had to deal with that mess. Getting out of Mpls is never good. Oddly enough, going into Mpls during rush hour might even be worse for some dumb reason.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge: 17th Edition: Summer Isn't Just A Stripper's Name

Don't know how to drive stick, because no need. My brother learned on an old International truck (my aunt boards horses, that was the ranch vehicle), and none of the gauges worked, so he had to go by the sound of the engine.

Weekend is here! Finally!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge: 17th Edition: Summer Isn't Just A Stripper's Name

My Mom has had a manual Scion Tc now for probably 7 years. She taught me with that, but I picked it up really quickly. Just a little time in an empty parking lot, then out to the roads.

Flying back to Tampa tomorrow afternoon. Absolutely perfect weather up here in Maine, and I enjoyed all the seafoods. Great trip, hopefully it won't be as long before my next visit.
