Good Morning Lodge from the Super 8 in Ely, MN. Jr and I were headed home from the BWCA yesterday when a deer failed to look both ways when crossing the highway. Pics on FB. Car is at a collision center and Mrs is on her way up to retrieve us.
Eta: happy to hear about Scarlet's dad. Hey gmann, you ever do BWCA? A group was going in that was a dad and 3 sons, oldest maybe 11.
I have thought about taking the boys to BWCA. The issue I have is little g and mobility. Not impossible but pretty dang close.
They may be waiting to call until they get the discharge summary. THat way they don't feel stupid when they talk to him. Hopefully the next few days will be better!Good morning Lodge. Thanks wT, goldy and everyone else. wT - we started watching the hockey game last night and then remember the Sox were on, so changed the channel, saw they were losing 5-2, and changed back to hockey.
This is going to be a struggle. I'm glad I took the week off but I worry about when I head home and back to work next week. He didn't sleep as well last night as he did the night before. He's so tired and weak. I wonder if we should have had him go to rehab. But I think he would've been a wreck there. Had great meetings yesterday with the Visiting Nurse intake nurse and the home PT guy. He has some really simple exercises to do starting today but when he woke up I could tell he was way too tired. I walked him in the hallway and then told him to go lie down. We made an appointment with his PCP for Tuesday and he asked me specifically to go with them. He's never done that before. THankfully it's in Boston so I can take the T over to meet them. I also asked the nurse when we called to make the appointment if his PCP could possibly call him before the meeting. He hasn't yet.
I'm getting some work done as I have my laptop. It's actually helpful because it's nice and quiet.
Welp, I'm 30 now. I finally have an age to match my lameness!
Seeing as I have a similar situation, we stayed here:

It was great and is on the edge of the BWCAW - the land is not, the water is.
I'm pretty sure it was non-motorized or at least restricted, but I could have that wrong. There were several day paddles that were nice from this spot.
I realize you're into tent camping, but this gave us the Boundary Waters without having to be in a tent - which we needed for my son and to be honest, I didn't mind as I'm not so young anymore that I enjoy sleeping on granite.
The only caveat is that this is the area where the forest fire was a couple of years ago, so I'm not sure what it looks like now.
It was so short and, basically, embarrassing, that I am reluctant to post such a report. Long and the short of it is Jr and I are not cut out for camping. Neither of us sleeps well on the ground, in a tent. We are too hot or too cold, hard to get pillows that work and the sounds can keep us awake. We had a mother *ing whippoorwill next to our camp that did not shut up from midnight to 5 AM. Combine that with my back not reacting well to paddling, carrying, climbing, trying to cook on a stove on the ground and laying on the ground and we were ready for a cabin or motel after just one night. So we bagged it and went back to the outfitter who put us up in the bunk house. We fished again in the morning and caught a few more small bass then headed for home. Then we hit the dam deer 10 miles south of Ely. Car is still in Ely waiting for an estimator to come and check it out.Goldy - expecting a trip report in the travel thread.
