Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #178: Oh, mookie's dreams...

Thanks all! Dad les ended up responding to a med change so more serious intervention on hold. Lil is successfully launched for yr 2. His roommates are cool kids. Had been doing OK but feeling a lot more sad than I thought I would be. It is hard when a kid leaves.

Back to reading Harry Potter. Comfort book.

Keep your chin up!

Had lunch with the 'rents, they liked the place. Went beer hunting, successful hunt. Pedal Pub tomorrow, hopefully watch some storms roll in later in the night. Nice relaxing weekend.

Downright slimy feeling in 978 land. Yesterday it was so humid there was condensation on the floor of lil's dorm. The AC was working OT but with the door open so much it was losing the humidity battle. Could see the footprints on the floor. Ew

Getting a mani/pedi this morning. I love these massage chairs. Going to visit my cousin who just had a baby on Wednesday. Good day to do it as it's not really a beach/pool day. Sun's out now but we're expecting rain later. I think. You can never tell these days. As les said, it's humid out.

Good Morning Lodge from paradise.

Tropical depression Kilo may become a hurricane again and turn NE to Hawaii, but should arrive after we leave. Planning to try the Road to Hana today. Possible flash flooding could turn us around though. Did a snorkeling Cruise yesterday and my new dive camera died a half hour into the trip. Did not see any turtles at Turtle Town.

Currently in cityslickerville as we checked in last night.

Mrs g is currently $hopping at MOA.

We will be eating at a fine establishment this evening and then the Foo Fighters tonight. We are main floor center stage and not that far from the stage. All is good.

Nice seats!

The Pedal Pub thing some of us did today was a LOT of friggin' work. You really have to put some strength into getting that thing going. At times, we were standing up to get more force behind the pedals. It was fun, but I doubt I'd do it again. And FTR, all of us are generally in good shape. Hit up some dive/townie bars, and afterwards hit up the Surly taproom, which is a really, really, nice place. Great food, too. And I'm 50/50 on the Surly beers.

And unless more storms are coming, the weather terrorists were basically wrong, again. It was a 20 minute blast of ZOMGALLTHERAIN and now there is nothing.

I like Royal Blood's radio stuff. Haven't heard their other songs. IIRC, Grohl basically discovered them and gave them their push.

I agree. I was at Surly when it started looking bad; got the heck out of there in a hurry. Traffic was down to 40mph on 394 (with good reason, visibility was bad) for a few minutes, but now there is nothing.

Is this where I mention I saw the Foos at First Ave for $6, GA but I made it to 3rd row, AND Eddie Vedder's side band was the first opener? Foos were the main opener. Mike Watt, of all people, was the headliner. :D

Stuff got pretty nasty down this way with huge bolts of lightning, the wind that everybody's getting, and some hard rain. Then it got quiet and picked up again. Vikings game was delayed for 45 minutes as of about 10 minutes ago because of lightning.

Between the Blue Screens Of Death on KMSP, they showed the stadium. They are getting hit hard. Nothing at my place, though.

Fade: I was a luck a-hole. At the time, we were there to actually see Watt. Didn't have much hope for the Foos. We were (gladly) wrong. Scalpers were offering $50/ticket to us. Not for the Foos, though. It was b/c Vedder was there. Really bizarre experience in hindsight.

That is bizarre. I can understand the Foos, The Colour and the Shape (1997) probably hadn't been released yet. Watt is an old school alternative god, but (assuming this was '96 or so) how was Vedder solo not headlining after Pearl Jam had been an international sensation for ~5 years? Only thing I can think is that it was an independent tour, or Vedder somehow insisted that Watt take the headline.

It was 1995 (still have the shirt! :D ). Watt released a cd that had many "featuring" songs, one (Against The 70s) featured Vedder. Vedder (and his wife) had some weird instrumental thing going, performing under the name "Hovercraft." Vedder wore a wig and sunglasses to try and disguise himself, played drums IIRC, and insisted on his name not being on the promos (but due to obvious leaks...well, you know how that goes). We really didn't have an idea until about a week before the show.
