Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #178: Oh, mookie's dreams...

Good Afternoon, Lodge!

I was supposed to go tubing tomorrow, but due to the fact that I injured my knee, I get to go to the doctor. It was the only time they had open that I could go either before or after work.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #178: Oh, mookie's dreams...

Back to work today. Big Boss came down to offsite to see how I was doing, etc. Flat out told me that he has no idea how I do this job by myself/with minimal help, and that it is more than impressive. Apparently the 2 days I was gone, they had at least 2, sometime 3 people working the offsite, and they STILL didn't get done there until almost 8pm each night. My lastest nights down there are about 6:30 nowadays, and that's rare.

Plus, the 2 carriers that pick up from there, and our shuttle driver were thankful to have me back. They said it's a world of difference.

So, I'm feeling pretty dam good about my job right now.

I can deal with babies. It's the extra charges for coach seat selection, and the skinflints trying to sneak on carry-ons that are clearly bigger than the size rules that pi55 me off.

Heading home after four days in Ralph's neck of the woods. In my seat for my flight home and seated next to a baby.

I laughed when I read this. TOld Mr les who laughed to. He now understands the Scarlet rule of flying.

Bermuda had the best attitude toward kids. They expect them to behave. If they don't off the bus or out of the restaurant they go. Not only do the other patrons expect it but the parents expect it too. The blow ins learn pretty quick there is no support or tolerance for ill behaved or noisy kids, what ever the cause. It was downright refreshing. I feel bad for the people who HAVE to fly with kids for a reason but unless it is imperative they fly they shouldn't until they are old enough to be able to behave. Same thing with restaurants. When you have a kid then there are certain things you forgo until it won't be disruptive to the rest of the world. If that means you don't go to nice restaurants or travel then that is the way the cookie crumbles. (Boy am I cranky tonight!)

Why am I seeing ads for UML season tickets on various websites?

Good Morning Lodge.

Exactly. That's why there are baby sitters. We HAD to fly with Jr once when he was little cause his grandma was in the hospital, but that was the only time we did it until he was old enough to behave. Now that was younger than many of the little brats cause we just did not tolerate misbehavior from him. We have gotten many compliments on his behavior over the years. We did leave a restaurant once when he was little cause he just would not settle down but that was rare. He was often the one commenting on other kids in public places cause he knew one shouldn't act that way in public.

Lil did that too. Somewhere along the line we have gone from kids are adults who are in training to kids little psyches need to be coddled and nurtured and everyone should be able to have what they want- who gives a shi7 how it affects someone else. Then we are shocked when they grow up to be knuckleheads. Start as you wish to end and don't put them in a place where you can't be sure they will succeed most of the time. That means actually sacrificing ::hand on forehead, dramatic sigh:: some of the things you like until they can succeed. When you think about it the kid who is screaming isn't happy either. It is the parents who can't delay gratification or are thinking of what they (parents) would want rather than what the kid needs or wants. Most kids would rather be in their own environment messing with their own stuff.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #178: Oh, mookie's dreams...

I want to note that we can't take full credit. For several of his formative years Jr had in-home daycare with a woman who ran an awesome program and all the kids there were well behaved. Some of the larger, commercial, daycares did not give that kind of individual attention and it showed with the kids' behavior. After that he went to a very good Montessori day care and kindergarten where he was also well schooled on correct behavior. I think all that built a solid base of how to act around others and respect others.

This is what bothers me. Seriously, I get people need, and even want, to travel with babies. I do. What annoys me is the fact that these parents don't seem to get that there are other people on the plane. It's a tight, closed environment. Do what you can to prepare the kid. I was on a late flight to LA once, it left at 8:30pm Boston time, arrived close to midnight LA time, which is 3am body time. Why is a baby on THAT flight? The parent was doing nothing to soothe/quiet the child, etc. It was a let the kid cry itself to sleep kind of thing. I almost got up to ask the parent if I could check the kid's diaper to see if there was a pin in it or something that would cause the incessant screaming. Babies ears hurt, I'm sure. If mine do, I can only imagine what a baby's would feel like. One red-eye flight had FOUR babies on it. Who does that? That's the stuff that drives me mental.

I was behind a woman on a jetway once who had three bags. I took a picture and tweeted it to American and said "WOW! When did you change your carry on allowance to three?? That's awesome!!" They tweeted back that they didn't and said it's up to the gate staff to catch that. Way to throw them under the bus. I hope they used it as part of training.

Noise canceling headphones/earbuds.

I've actually heard stories of parents handing these out to nearby rows. You do that on my flight and I'll endorse you for POTUS.

Mrs g and I took the boys to a decent restaurant when they were babies one time. Their behavior was acceptable as they were not loud or causing a scene. The issue was that they were to young to know any better. Little g (with no mean intent) backhanded his plate of chicken strips, fries, ranch and ketchup. The plate landed face first against the wall. Ketchup and ranch everywhere. Literally within seconds after that little gII had a mouth full of milk and he sneezed. Milk flew out of his mouth and nose. We asked for our check. We tipped the waitress very well and got the hell out of there. :)

Edit....I flew plenty back in the day and I didn't and still don't have an issues with babies. They have just as much of a right as the rest of us to be on the plane. I take issue with the unruly/bratty kids but I point the finger at the parents.

Solution for not wanting to deal with babies/kids? Drive a car. Problem solved :D
