Good Morning Lodge.

The market for engineers in the TC seems to heating up quite a bit. Getting lots of contacts from headhunters lately. Maybe I should have hung on at the old place a little longer and had more to pick from...

I hate acronyms at work. The "worst" one: STD. Short-term disability. Do they even think these things through?

And gonna have to talk to the Boss about our shuttle driver. The guy is worthless. Can't accept criticism, acts unprofessionally when criticized, and is a general f-up.
Well, I guess certain STD would cause the short term disability for certain things.....

Can you do the job well? That's all I care about. The only thing certs tell me is that you can memorize answers well enough to pass an exam.

Good morning, MEUSA, RalphPa, etc.

I agree on certificates, that isn't what I'm talking about though. All of those organizations have guidelines or regulations that we have to design our products (engines) to.

The acronyms that set the rules I have no problem with as I've been immersed in them for 30+ years. But now I have whole new set of them from corporatespeak - these I'm struggling with.

Lately I have gotten slightly less messages from headhunters. But given my specialty, almost none of the headhunters that contact me are looking for positions in the Twin Cities. I get headhunters for companies in southeastern Wisconsin (company names weren't disclosed, but my guess is Generac and Waukesha), eastern Wisconsin (Kohler), eastern Illinois (CAT), Iowa (Deere), southern Minnesota (MTU)...the only one I get contacts from in the Twin Cities is Polaris, in Wyoming, MN. I get contacts, but haven't bitten on any of them, and probably won't at this point, in the near future. After a promotion and a raise, I'm quite happy where I'm at.

Acronyms are a core competency at mother mining.
It's like that at every company. We have an acronym guide on our corporate-wide LAN site, and then one that's specific to Trust Ops. Then I get to deal with industry acronyms and the government's set too. It's really fun when talking about derivatives processing because the OCC has a government use and industry use, completely different creatures yet both important, so context is key.

Gorgeous day here. Started the day with delicious biscuits and gravy from a local place that does chuckwagon bbq. Hopefully the weather remains pristine for my team's first softball game of the season tonight.
Hickman Hotel? They usually set up their chuck wagon up at the Friday afternoon farmers Market in dixboro that's in the field next to us. Always smells so good.

MMM is at another level. People who have worked at other places, no matter the industry, are blown away by the acronyms when they join.

This Friday is more of a Tuesday than Tuesday was.

I cannot believe that "Lip Sync Battle" is as entertaining as it is. Friggin hilarious. I just spent 30 minutes watching clips on youtube.

Jeep getting a little nip and tuck. New tires, and a tune up. Then it's Preakness time. Love the Triple Crown races. Given the weather tomorrow (beautiful during day, storms in evening), gonna be a perfect day: enjoy a book on the patio, then watch the storms roll in as the sun sets.

Same here. My favorite is SODAS (S24 Official Document Acknowledgement System). In fact, I worked with the guy who came up with it.
