There IS something just serene about a campfire and the wilderness. I do miss it. The woman and I do want to take the kids camping some weekend this summer. I still have a 9-person tent from my camping days. Yes, I like my roominess with a large tent. :o

An older gentleman I know purchased a bunch of camping gear just over a year ago. He usually spends a couple weeks out in Colorado hunting for elk each year. Just after he purchased everything he became seriously ill and is now unable to hunt like he used to. He sold everything to me for a fraction of what he bought it for. Included in the deal was pretty much everything a person needs for camping. A 12x20 four season tent (Cabelas Alaknak tent) and a vestibule and a wood stove and a bunch of other accessories for the tent and cots and tables and a bunch of other stuff. Everything was still in the box and never used. Deal of the century.

I am antsy to use it. As soon as the snow melts and we get some weather that flirts with lows around freezing or just below I am going to get everything packed and head out to some state or federal land and spend a couple days out in the sticks.

Between that and the Pappy...JFC I am jealous.

Yeah, I think you've helped renew the desire to camp out. Thank you. :)

I'd love to see you carrying that ****er over a 500 rod portage. :p

Pappy shmappy. :)

No backpacking or portaging with the gear I have though. I am looking forward to finding new camping spots though as there are a ton of state or federal parks/land within a three hour drive from me.

I have some faux camping sites (Monticello, they have electrical hookups and running water showers/bathrooms) along with some "real" camping grounds and such within a short drive. I can do either.

I have a perfect spot for what I am looking for. No running water though but it's on a lake. I want to get there before summer kicks in as the bugs can be quite overwhelming.

Edit. Cripes still-11 but feels like -40.

Last time we went camping was up at one of the national forests in the UP. No electric at the site we had, but there was a bathroom facility nearby. Showers were down by the lake. We had a great time. I wanted to go camping last summer, but decided that was not in my best interest. Not sure if we'll be able to get out this summer, but we're going to make sure it becomes part of what we do.

We used to do the rustic cabins in the Porkies. That's a beautiful park.

Stopped for lunch in Keene

There is a burger joint downtown. The special today was a burger with chocolate covered bacon served on a glazed doughnut with honey BBQ sauce.

Anyone wanna guess what Mookie went with?

Blankets hung between the couch and the coffee table count... ;)
Those are not tents...those are forts.

My dentist better not open his office tomorrow if the 10" of snow forecast is accurate.

Morning Lodge.

gman - Mark makes a good point.

Met the girl last night as Jr and she were still here when we got back from the Gopher game. She seems nice enough, but quiet. The two of them were playing Yatzee when we got home - and no that's not a euphemism for anything dirty you ***ing pervs! They then moved on to Scrabble.

ETA: for anyone watching the MN State Tourney this week (prep45.com if anyone wants to buy the stream), on Thursday keep an eye on #17 for Edina - he's one of Jr's buddies from since before mites.
I'll take a look. Will you be there?

Ahh, so jr and the gal played twister while you were at the game!
