Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

Happy Thanksgiving, y'all. Happy Hanukkah to those celebrating as well.

We're cooking a feast of a breakfast for everybody, because Thanksgiving food coma.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

Good lord, How many turkeys are they cooking to feed that herd?

Making some of the last minute prep stuff for my bird, got a can ready to go for the beer can stand. Then I remembered that the only beer I've got left in the house here is Guinness. Should work. Even went out and got one of those electric charcoal starters tonight as well. Meijers wasn't quite crazy tonight, but I think some of the employees are starting to get that thousand yard stare they'll get this time of the year.

I think there will be 2 20 lb turkeys and a 10 lb ham for the main brunt of the meal. I can guarantee I won't leave hungry.

Well the Turkey brine didn't freeze in the garage last night. Only down to 21 here. Off to take Jr to help with meals on wheels thing in St Paul. He did it last year too. He starts at 5 am.

Happy Thanksgiving Lodge! It's 6:11am and my niece and I are sitting in the front row on the curb on Central Park West. Three hours till the parade begins! It's 31 degrees with a light wind. Not sure how windy it will get but if the parade were to start now I think the balloons would be in it.

Did you get some DD coffee to fortify you?

I bet that there will be a lot of crying babies there. ;)

Last night we bought chocolate milk and mini donuts, plus water. As we've been sitting here these guys filled in behind us with chairs and one of them did a Starbucks run and treated me and Julia to coffee and hot chocolate.

Sounds about right.

Bird is in the smoker now for about an hour and a half. And getting a good dusting of snow here.

Putting lights on it now as I keep tabs on the Badger ballers winning their 8th straight to open the season and the Hawks game.

Badger BB and Hawks? Clearly you must have been consuming massive amounts of something as it is obvious your judgement has been impaired. And by Hawks I'm sure you are referencing Atlanta because nobody in their right mind likes the Hawks from that Windy City place ;) :p :D

Good morning Lodge.

O. J. Simpson -- not a Jew!
You make me laugh on a regular basis

Good Morning, MEUSA! :)

Good Morning to the rest of tLodge! :)
Sleeping in today?

WHy is everyone putting up their tree before Thanksgiving?? Is Thanksgiving a holiday anymore? I don't get it. I like to enjoy Thanksgiving but the Christmas creep is so bad people are forgoing or altering Thanksgiving (where they used to get together with family) to shop and prep for Christmas to get great things for their family. Isn't the most important thing being with each other? Label me lost. It isn't like we have never had T Day this late before.

That is nice.

Got off the boat early, got to the airport early, and was able to upgrade to biz select for the earlier flight! Landing in TPA shortly after noon now, so maybe I can get home and still have a decent meal! Now A2 boarding number, so I should be able to get myself an exit row seat too!

I'm with you les. Growing up, Christmas season started after the bird was gone. Around here, some people had Christmas lights up a month ago! Not to mention the stores started their Christmas displays before Halloween. It's become way too commercialized for me. Don't even get me started about all those tools that will actually be Christmas shopping later today...

AMEN!! (Does this mean we are now qualified as old and curmudgeonly??) It is so commercialized and people are so obsessed with things. DO you really need all those things so much you leave your family to get them and are OK that others are forced to leave their families to make sure you can shop? Makes me wild. Nothing compared to Lil who is obsessed with being aggravated that people are doing Christmas before Thanksgiving. He had apoplexy they put Rudolph on already.

OK, attitude-ectomy. Started a thread for Thanksgiving to remind myself to be Thankful instead of an old whiney crone.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!
