Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #170: Fair Weather

Whoa!

The nice thing about the fair being over is we can go to Roseville again. :)

Snicker....I'm just thinking of all the easterners that are reading these posts, and they may be confused or puzzled by our posts.

Yes, the Fair is that big.
Yes, people take PTO time for it.
Yes, we Minnesotans are dang proud of it and will defend it.
Yes, it's a rite of sorts.

It fits in with a lot of other characteristics of Minnesotans that I have learned on USCHO. :D :p

BTW, if NY's state fair is in Syracuse it isn't surprising that attendance isn't great. Practically no one from the metro NYC area is likely to go, and without that you are comparing Upstate NY (however that is defined) with Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Well, technically, our state fair is in Falcon Heights...

Good Morning Lodge

Technically is right. It's clearly in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area. The bus drop-off is in St. Paul, you can throw a rock across Snelling or Como and hit St. Paul.

A little stiff from the walking and standing, but otherwise came through the Fair unscathed. No food hangovers (didn't eat that much and generally my wife, son and I shared everything).

Good Morning, Lodge!

New person starts today. I get to spend my week training her in. Hopefully, she is better than the last person.

Best State Fair food that I tried were the Pig Wings from Mancini's. Incredibly tasty. I also got the Minneapple Pie, with Cinnamon Ice Cream, it was also awesome, but it was too big, and filled me up too quickly. I tried the Famous Dave's Cajun Pork Rinds with Alabama White BBQ Sauce, which I liked, but they gave me about an ice cream pail of them, and I only got about a quarter of the way through them. The crowd on Sunday was just horrendous, as Brent already mentioned. Way too many people. We couldn't even walk around. Luckily we were there early, so we got a bunch done before the crowd got to be unbearable. Friday night we took my fiance's parents to the fair, they had never been before. I think (hope!) they had a good time. We weren't there too long since we went in the evening after we moved my fiance into my house. But we got to try some of the food highlights, had some beer, and got to check out some good stuff on the fairgrounds. They were impressed/surprised how huge the fairgrounds were, and we never went north of Dan Patch (Machinery Hill), so we only saw about half of the grounds, or less.

First day of my life where I am not working or going to school on the first day of school. This is also the last time because I fully expect to finally have a full time teaching gig for next school year.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #170: Fair Weather

I just learned that in our Charlotte, NC offices the main conference room was named "Winning". I really want to say that the name was given prior to the whole Charlie Sheen meltdown from last year or the year before, but I just can't be certain. Regardless of that, it's still a stupid name for a conference room.

Hey Brent, MNS, PB, SoH or others in the Twin Cities that are interested...we (Brent, MNS and I) briefly discussed potentially going to Houghton for Carnival this year. I'm wondering if you're still interested, and how many are interested. If we have a group of 5-6 that can commit, I have a lead on a cabin outside of town that I believe will still be available. It isn't walking distance to downtown (well, I've walked it, but I don't recommend it) but it will be quite cheap ($400 for a week, total, with 3 bedrooms). Let me know if you are interested, and if I get 5-6, I will get this cabin booked. If not, I'm just going to stick with the waiting list for a Travelodge room that I'm currently on, for me and the fiance.

Good evening Lodge.

Holy hell it was a crazy day. For those of you keeping score from home.......The switch for our new software at work was turned on over the weekend. We have over 300,000 customers and good chunk of the customers that logged into our new software experienced some type of issues. It could have been worse and it could have been better. Of course the project I was in charge of passed with flying colors. ;) I am guessing that 12 hour days will be the norm for the next week or two.

I'm in a similar spot. We have an application that's in its final week of UAT testing right now. It's scheduled to go into production 9/26, a Thursday so we can fix it over the weekend if it blows up that Friday. The app will handle the asset settlement for hundreds of millions (sometimes billions) of dollars in transactions each day and is supposed to be the main building block for all future processes and settlement applications. It's pretty much acting as the measuring stick of how well I do my job with the full attention of the manager of all trust operations. Fun times.

Good luck.

We easily had several billions of dollars switching from one system to the other. Every Lenny was accounted for.........

A few months ago we had discussed going live on the Thursday before Labor Day and then use the weekend to repair but it was decided to use the long weekend to launch. I thought it was a dumb idea then and even a dumber idea now.

Yes.

And to echo Scarlet in the past: Tuesdays suck.
