He was accepted there also(who isn't? :) ). Much cheaper but once we visited Embry Riddle it was all over. Embry Riddle has a Hockey team also :D. He might end up in Air Traffic Control?

Grand Forks v. Daytona Beach? I'd be concerned with the lad if he didn't prefer Embry!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #167: Weather

It's the old bromide: it's not how you start, it's how you finish.

Earlier today Denver played North Carolina in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Men's Lacrosse tournament. Eight minutes into the first quarter the TarHeels led 6-0. Flashing ahead to the fourth quarter Eric Law scored with thirteen seconds remaining to make the score 12-11 in Denver's favor. It was the only time in the game Denver led. The Pioneers advance to the Final Four in Philly on Memorial Day Weekend.

It's not how you start, it's how you finish. ;)

Tarheels pulled a Sergio as well, eh? Sounds like Syracuse yesterday.

Yes, but now he'll be one of those pilots who has to mention that they went to Embry every other sentence. ;)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #167: Weather

How did he get interested in that? Pretty cool stuff.
He flew into Wright Bros field in Kitty hawk NC when he was about 9 or 10 with his uncle who lived down there and owned a Cessna 172. Loved it, pretty cool experience. He also played with Flight Simulator all the time instead of video games(played games also but).

I have a customer who runs a small airport and does instruction. He had a ground school, I asked Andrew if he wanted to go, he did. His Mom and I drove him there every week when he was 15, by 16 he was flying, Did his first solo, 3 up, 3 down and at 17 he had his private license. He joined Civil Air Patrol at that time to be around planes also. Now he is trying to get certified on a 172 at CAP, teaches classes to the younger CAP kids. We found some homework from 3rd grade where he stated he wanted to be a pilot so its one of those things, somehow he knew early what he wanted to do.

Sounds like me. Growing up on the St. Lawrence Seaway, watched the ships go through the lock that was nearby, begging my parents to drive me out there virtually every day in the summer. Sure enough, it's all worked out and I definitely enjoy what I do.

So maybe the ponies aren't all that bad after all. Had put $8 on Oxbow, but didn't think it was going to net me much. Ends up it returned $131.20, so I actually made $20 on the race. Maybe I'll get lucky for the Belmont

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #167: Weather

Amazing video on The Weather Channel....Wichita & OK are getting hit hard by storms.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #167: Weather

Send him to a real flight school, like North Dakota (much cheaper too). :D

Look where it got MNS! Just messin' with ya, man.

And sure, it got better. Hockey Jesus and Flag Guy showed up! Bah timing. :(

Full day of movies, watching the storms roll through.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #167: Weather

I think we get the storms tomorrow night. It's supposed to be ~90 here tomorrow, then thunderstorms tomorrow night and Tuesday.

Here's how it works. You show up and you drink. A lot. Then, you either sober up or find some floor to curl up on until you sober up.

There was one year where I saw the sun rise. Caught a little nap and went home.

One time, we were smart enough to get a room at the Country Inn just up the road. That was brilliant.

Just sayin'... :)

I didn't want to impose, especially being a rookie of said Spring Party. Besides, gorgeous night to drive with the top down. I think I reached Zen on the way home. :)

Meat smog. This time I think I can leave the windows open tomorrow.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #167: Weather

There is always hope.
Crazy how the idiocy of a few months can have such a huge effect at such a young age. Coaches were there yesterday watching. Bag over head comes to mind. Nothing to do about it but sigh over the lost opportunities. The consequences of the actions probably caused the horror show yesterday (all but took out his tonsils the night before) but we knew that when we ripped him the new one. When he is 40 and still paying off school it will be on him.

I haven't pieced together what he did... but honestly, whatever it is I'm sure you guys aren't the only one who will want to slap him in the back of the head. I know I want to... I wasn't the perfect student... loathed assignments and the rest... school ain't cheap and if he was in that position and scuffed it... well... if you want to go to a quality school you can't screw up or show that you are a screw up.

But in ND you don't have to worry about flying into trees. ;)

Nor do you have to worry about the Bermuda Triangle.
