Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #166; And Now On To....

We can use the bus to get to campus. It's free and I've yet to use it. I know that's not exactly mass transit, but it makes like 12 stops that I feel no need to be a part of.

I've come to the realization that the pain I'm feeling is only a sacrifice I'm making to improve my relationship with my lady. It hurts, but I love her enough to endure this. I think we're at the point in our relationship that the "honeymoon" stage, for lack of better term, is over, and we need tonlearn to grow and mature in new ways together. It has helped me be a bit more positive and productive. I still have an empty feeling inside, but have faith that this is something that will make us closer and stronger together. Thanks again for listening.

Confounded modernity! I don't like it! //hockers into spittoon// No siree! My mule does jest fine!

You young whippersnappers and your Skrillex em-pee-threeamabobbers on your fancy beepy boopy iPhones! Back in my day we had Edison's wax cylinders and WE LIKED 'EM! Where's a man like Millard Fillmore when you need 'em?

That's it? The place in town had a piano!

"em-pee-threeamabobbers" -- That was pretty funny.

bbdl, I'm just bustin' you. The mass transit in the Twin Cities is not something I'd want to have to rely on. Like goldy said earlier though, some places have great options, and it makes way more sense to use the system. Boston was like that when I was in college, and for my first job in DC too. Really nice when you're young and poor to not have car payments, insurance, gas, maintenance, parking, etc.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #166; And Now On To....

Another great transportation decision: me at age 15 getting a 16 yr old girlfriend with a red '68 Mustang. Dang that was a nice way to get around.

That'd be nice. I know I'd love to drive a Corvette. Of course, I wouldn't do it living in the Northeast; the Trailblazer does quite well for me.

Would love one as well, but it'd be a suicide mission in AK.

If I had to lose the Wrangler, I'd go with either a WRX or an F-150 Raptor. Probably the Raptor, I need something that can haul a pin for when I set up the basement arcade.

And where I came from there was exactly zero public transportation. That includes when we went into town. The closest thing was a short bus that drove the mentally challenged adults and elderly around town. My first experience ever with public transportation was on a class trip in 8th grade, to Washington DC. We got off the tour bus (not public transportation, since it was a nice motorcoach), and got on the subway "so we could see what a subway train was like", rode it one stop and the bus picked us up again. I've only ridden a public bus 2 times (I don't count shuttle busses and such, they seem to be in a different category), and both were to avoid having to leave a car somewhere, in anticipation of drinking. Both times were terrible experiences. Generally, I haven't minded trains as much. I've taken the light rail in Minneapolis, and haven't minded it, and I have since taken the Washington DC train several times again, and while it sucks, I haven't had any problems.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #166; And Now On To....

This happened, and still happens regularly. I don't see why it would be a problem, and it never has been a problem where I'm from. We usually had several tractors in the parking lot on the day of the homecoming parade. My cousin drove his tractor to school the day he bought it, but then, it is a pretty big deal even where I'm from when a high school kid buys a $100,000 John Deere. :p

My old high school has gone stupid in many things, but I don't think the tractor thing would bother them, we're still rural enough, thank god.

With that said, my old school district (where I grew up) has gone full retard on some things. Enough so that my mom, who used to work there, walked out one day and retired on the spot. (well gave two weeks notice, and said she's using her 2 remaining weeks of vacation at the same time)

If you sang this post out loud while a banjo and a fiddle played in the background you just might have a #1 country hit!

No mention of a daughter who ran off with a city boy, Jesus, or a relative in the armed forces. Drops off the charts in a week.

True. however, mentioning tractor and John Deere score big bonus points with the old school fans and he does mention god which covers the deep south.

My girlfriend or whatever she's called now.. Ex? I don't like that term quite yet,
Tough love: Get used to it. She wanted to take a break or space or some such malarkey, iirc. Translation from girl-speak to boy-speak: "We're done." She's "letting you down easy." Even though this will drive you crazy for the next several months which is anything but letting you down easy. Unless, of course, you understand that it's over.

If you don't mind me asking, how long have you been a couple?

Amen to this. I know breaking up with my ex was tough at first. I was used to being touchy-feely-happy, but then remember the arguments we used to have, and then figured out that she was trying to control my life, so I said to myself, "Dude, you're a free man!"

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #166; And Now On To....

Greetings Lodge! Long day today. On the road at 7am from LA to Chula Vista, which is down by the Mexican border. It's where o e of the Olympic Training Centers is located. Went there with my bosses and two internal clients to check it out, had a paralympian long jumper who is blind as a helper of our tour guide. Cool guy. Then we met with Blake Leeper who is a gold medal paralympian track star who will be running against Oscar Pistorius, if that guy gets to run. Same kind of blade prosthetics, very cool.

Saw some BMX training, US women's rugby, some archery training. It's a beautiful facility.

Almost three hours back, dropped someone off at LAX and just spent the last half hour trying to figure out how to ship 20 volleyballs back to the office. I'm tired. And hungry.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #166; And Now On To....

Everything has its advantages and disadvantages. By not using mass transit, you have scheduling freedom, more room for baggage (you may determine the sort), and are not bound to the confines of the metropolitan limits.

Nor the proclivities of your fellow commuter. Car is freedom.
