Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #162: Love Is In the Air

The discussion between the electrician and the guys from the power company was almost funny.
Tech: "It's reading what?"
Supv: "That can't be."
Elect: "Come look for yourself."
Supv: "I've never seen that before."
Tech: "I read about it somewhere."
Me: "What's this mean in plain English and how much is it going to cost?"
Oh yeah... shorts, a t-shirt, and sandals were the order of the day.Sixty degrees? So you've turned the place into a sauna, eh?![]()

That's it! 45 on one and 190 or so on the other. It went wacky or more importantly you had bulbs burning with something greater than 120 volts, probably close to 200 volts.
The electrician was beside himself because he thought that yesterday but the readings were all good until there was any sort of load applied. When we discovered the ground was also comprimised, it made sense to him.I thought it was weird when you said the voltages changed when he turned on a lightbulb. That wasn't the breaker that was the neutral.

We're not out of the woods yet. It seems the big freezer in the basement went belly-up in addition to all the other things affected. The temp is slowly creeping up and I have big quartz space heater up in the bedroom (no heat upstairs until the controller gets replaced). My wife is going to call the insurance company to see if any of this is covered under our homeowners policy but I'm not holding my breath.Glad you got it running, warm house is much better than cold house in the winter![]()
