The thing with turkey is it has a low entry barrier. You don't need a dog like for pheasants (and maybe ducks). You only need a shotgun, some pretty inexpensive decoys and a call. Maybe some camo and/or a blind.
And actually deer hunting is very similar. You just need the gun, some blaze orange and a place to hunt and you're ready to go. A stand is nice, but if you sit in the right spot you don't need one.

Hunting/shooting is very fun and rewarding sport/activity that anyone can do for their entire lives. It is actually very safe also, as long as you know how to properly handle a firearm and you don't hunt with idiots. The last few times I have visited my parents house my dad and I have gone out and done some target shooting. After harvest we set up some pallets with targets stapled to them, and lean them up against a pile of round bales. We go out for 20 minutes shoot off 30 rounds or so and it is now something that we enjoy doing together as father/son. (not to mention, my dad needs all the practice he can get, he can't hit anything with his Kimber .45 :p)

At my home with two young kids I cannot keep a gun accessible or locked and loaded ready to fire within close proximity to my person. Way more cons than pros. Like I stated earlier, my guns and ammo are locked and stored separately. If a situation arises in which I needed to arm myself quick, I am in trouble. I do keep a five iron within arms reach in the bedroom though. ;)

A few weeks ago a guy in cityslickerville kept a loaded pistol under his pillow ( I think) and his four year old shot his two year old brother dead. Tragic. I think dad is being tried for manslaughter. I hope he fries.

Or you could live in the sticks and feel a piece of lead whiz by your head.............
I keep my .357 Magnum loaded and closeby when I'm at home, especially when I'm sleeping. I don't have any kids running around, so I don't have to worry about the potential for that kind of tragedy. I unload it whenever I'm drinking or if anyone in the house is drinking. Booze and guns don't mix very well.

Ducks can be called in, it's hitting them that is the tricky part - takes practice. :) You're smart to start him with a larger, slower target.

I have never bird hunted before. The only thing I've shot that flies is a clay. I may have taken a pot shot at a turkey with a slug before. :p
But I signed up for the spring turkey lottery this year. I figured I may as well, could be fun.

mookie can not put into words how fun it is to txt her from across the ice and rile her up during a hockey game :p

So, as a season ticket, Agganis Arena sent out an envelope with coupons from sponsors. One of the offeres was for a round of golf at a nice course. Since mookie is NO LONGER GETTING MINE, would any one else like it? :)

Jr is not a good shot and he got one his first try. How hard can it be?

I thought so, thanks. Still remember goldy say out due to his fear of me getting him with a two handed slash on the shins;)

Hockey tomorrow. Woo!

Wow, so young and already your memory is gone - so sad. Is it the alcohol over indulgence at such a young age or the repeated concussions? ;)

I didn't play because Greyeagle forgot half his equipment so I let him use mine. Seems to be a theme of bad memory here, eh?
