Did your in-laws ever fess up? ;)

I don't feel so bad about the in laws. My best friend is having issues with his parents and siblings. Total there are six of them. His mom and dad are both very successful and good people. Three of the four siblings are also established and good people. One of his siblings has had various issues most of his life and his parents always come to his aid and enable him. It drives the siblings crazy. Sibling messed up again big time about two years ago. Options were 20-30 years in prison or $1.2 million in restitution. Mom and dad wrote out a check. Mom and dad were close to retirement but now have to work a bit longer. Siblings are mad because their piece of the pie just got smaller. ;)

Wife is one of six. About 10 years ago we were kicking around the idea of buying a new house in St. Paul, down near Dave's hoitey-toitey 'hood. Anyway, in-laws get wind and approached s about buying the family cabin and we jumped at it. I told my wife, you guys figure it out the details and tell me when/where to sign. I wanted nothing to do with setting the price. Wife talked to all her siblings and said speak now or forever.....

Six weeks after the sales is finalized a sister-in-law finally found out. She is mad as hell and calls in-laws, I didn't know you guys were taking bids on the cabin? God bless my mother-in-law, she said we didn't, offered it to us and we accepted. Then she accused me of manipulating the deal. Nope, MIL said, he's kid innocent. How come I didn't know? She asks. How come you and the hubby don't talk, she replies. Pssst, this is why they didn't ask you MIL didn't say :)

I just grin every time I see the SIL at the cabin.

Timing is going to work out well, FIL's health is not good the past few months, if they still owned it probably would have been in jeopardy if he keeps declining at the rate he's going. MIL knew what she was doing.

Family. :D

Stories like this are why I'm glad there won't be any family real estate drama in my branch. My problem will be selling all of my parents' excess real estate so I can afford to keep the one "up north" home that I care about, but with any luck, I've got at least 30 years for the market to rebound before I worry about that problem. And who knows, maybe the natural gas well on the hunting property will come in. ;)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #160: Resolute in 2013

At my home with two young kids I cannot keep a gun accessible or locked and loaded ready to fire within close proximity to my person. Way more cons than pros. Like I stated earlier, my guns and ammo are locked and stored separately. If a situation arises in which I needed to arm myself quick, I am in trouble. I do keep a five iron within arms reach in the bedroom though. ;)

A few weeks ago a guy in cityslickerville kept a loaded pistol under his pillow ( I think) and his four year old shot his two year old brother dead. Tragic. I think dad is being tried for manslaughter. I hope he fries.

Or you could live in the sticks and feel a piece of lead whiz by your head.............
Right now I have a couple of boot-knives and a Louisville Slugger around the place. I saw that story about the guy with the pillow gun. Horrible.

I remember an old roommate who kept his loaded .45 in his nightstand drawer. However, whenever his kid cousins were over the gun was not only locked up safe, it was at his mom's house. He refused to have a gun in the house with kids over. No exceptions.

friend of mine tells the story of how he used to have a carry permit. he was cleaning the gun and thought it was empty and while finishing up he cycled through and lo and behold there was a discharge... through the floor of his apartment and into (!!!) the downstairs neighbor's. after nearly cleaning his pants he went down to check. he heard a tv, but nobody answered. he called the locals and told them what happened and asked that they come and check since he thought the worst. turns out the neighbor wasn't home, but left stuff on. buddy followed the cops to the station and turned in his permit and gave them the gun...

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #160: Resolute in 2013

That was actually Augsburg College. I always loved that one....

i got a ride from a cabbie who lived there. we had a good chat. i asked why in the heck he would emigrate here from africa and live in the north pole! he laughed and said someone told him to come, so he came... he added that was the last time he didn't check things out and research the next suggestion :D

Oh no. No no no. Nice neighborhood. Habit I kept from college after a buddy's place was broken into, while he was home.

At a hotel in Houstown, back to work in the morning. Bought a nice 32" Samsung LED for my room on the boat so I can play xbox before I go to sleep. Solid deal on it at WallyWorld. Also bought three 10 packs of Monster Rehab since I know I won't be sleeping much this hitch ;)

I recommend the Monster Cuba Lima for non-mornings. It tastes fantastic.
