When I was growing up, I wanted to play bass guitar. Parents/extended family were confused as to why I wanted to play such a boring instrument. Why did they think that? They all listened to country. I agree, playing bass for hick bands would be boring. Gimme some Sly, Stevie Wonder, etc. Gotta funk it up.

Belt buckle boy just felt a great disturbance in the force. Better get him a cup of coffee :D

The bass is THE instrument in funk and jazz. Drums are a very close second.

So creative, so versatile. Makes ya wanna get down and boogie a little. It's like a tugboat, towing the rest of the music along so many paths.

Percussion and bass are called the rhythm section for a reason. Everything else depends on them, in the jazz/blues/funk genres especially.

"You can't groove if you ain't got no pocket!"

Men's league game coming up here at 11. I'm worn out, but love this game far too much.

Bass players are annoying. I should know, Mr. wore Black is one. :D

More often than not, they are the most level-headed and easygoing in most bands.

Incubus' first bassist, would wander around the crowd before the shows and during the opening acts and interview people. No one ever knew who he was, and he was just fine with it. Made for great comedy.

Whenever I think of bassists doing something odd, I always come back to Mike Watt's "Ballhog Or Tugboat" album. Good album. Or on tI2, when you guys showed me Victor Wooten, and I showed you Matt Freeman. Totally different styles, both impressive.

If i could choose any instrument to play well, I'd choose the fiddle. It would be awesome to be a badass fiddle player. But I have 0 musical talent so...,

Never knew you wanted to play violin. ;)

I already know how to play the trombone, Euphonium, tuba, trumpet, and piano (which means mallets as well)

I want to get a better grasp on the woodwinds and strings, but I MUST learn the banjo and the bagpipes before I croak.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #158: Lodge Member's Habits

Banjo and bagpipes. That is one hell of a combination.

I can't play anything. I can't even sing well. I couldn't carry a tune in a 5-gallon bucket.

Could be worse. I can sorta sing, but only if it's by Fred Schneider (of B-52's fame). :(

Amazing Grace or Scotland the Brave, yes.

I am a bit of a chameleon with my voice, but the guys I can mimic the closest are Dave Grohl, Anthony Kiedis, and Jack Black.

With your look (at times) it's a shame you can't sing like Church. You could totally front a cover band and make some money.

Why would you need to carry a tune if you're playing the bagpipes?? ;)

The bagpipes would be a cool thing to learn how to play, but it takes a lot of practice, and is kind of expensive to get all of the gear.
