Morning. Headed down the Mississippi for the first time in a few months. Not quite back to normal water levels, but Sandy is helping us get close to it. Lots of water coming off the Ohio River and continuing down.

Morning Lodge.

Well, at least Jr's team won yesterday. Won 3-1 but took 38 PIM. Two CFB's which each earn you a 5 and a 10 these days in MN youth hockey. Probably deserved another one as well that was called a cross check. At least our PK is getting a lot of early practice and looks good. Had at least two 5 on 3's to kill off one that was over a minute and a half. They won on Friday too in spite of a CFB then. At this rate we could go undefeated and finish second due to losing Fair Play Points for too many penalties.

Good Morning Lodge.

Just over 60,000 points in the amateur radio contest. Missed the clean sweep by 4 sections, including the one where I grew up. Missed Northern New York, North Dakota, North Ontario, and Alberta.

Posting from Scotland?
My trip got cancelled at the last minute on Saturday, because I didn't get my approval in time. We need approval from 3 different people to book international travel, and I only got 2 before the "drop dead time" when I absolutely had to have it booked or cancel it. I talked it over with my supervisor on Friday and he said if I didn't get the last approval in time, just cancel and come to work as normal on Monday, so that's what I did. Customer isn't too happy about it, but there isn't anything else I could have done. All of the tickets were fully refundable, so it wasn't any expense on my part, for the company.

edit: I'm guessing that I'll just have to go over there sometime soon, probably end up just spending another week over there after my week in Holland.

Happy Guy Fawkes Day.

I couldn't believe that no one at work had heard of Guy Fawkes Day. It's not like I celebrate it or anything, but I've at least heard of it and know the basic history behind it. Many of my Facebook friends have posted "Remember, remember the 5th of November.." today. I think I sometimes forget that not everyone knows as much trivia or is as educated as most of my friends.

Then again, it's a holiday with bonfires and fireworks, that seems like it should appeal to everyone.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #157: Hockey Watching Habits

Good morning Lodge and Happy Monday. I honestly don't know what Guy Fawkes Day is. I've heard of it. That's a start I guess. Back in the office after two days out last week. Trip home was fine. I was worried I would miss my connection in MSP. It was a tight conenction to begin with and there was a slight delay leaving Grnad Forks. The walk between the gate where I landed and where I took off was further than I thought, given they were only a concourse apart. That said, I managed to get something to eat at the food court.

My fear was missing my flight, and then not being able to get on the next flight as a standby passenger and having to wait for an even later flight. So I would have posted/texted/FB messaged all of you Twin Citiers to come pick me up and let me hang out while waiting for a later flight. But, I made it home with no problem. Another time!! :)

Terriers play at Merrimack on Friday. Talk about going from the ridiculous to the sublime (or should it be from the sublime to the ridiculous?) with regards to arenas. From The Ralph to Lawler Rink.....

Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot...

Guy Fawkes was caught as part of a plot on November 5, 1605, trying to blow up the Parliament building in London. He was placing barrels of gun powder in the cellar and tunnels leading to the building when arrested. It was in protest against King (I forget which one) treatment of English Catholics (tortured, imprisoned and executed for heresy) after officially separating England from the Catholic Church.

Morning/Afternoon.

Weekend wrap up: Gopher hockey continues to disappoint. Bears won big. Saw an opera with my girlfriend. Tried a beer milkshake.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #157: Hockey Watching Habits

I'd imagine that a beer float kind of thing using an oatmeal stout or something like that would be pretty tasty.
