Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #155: Back to School

So, I was playing euchre earlier today (before anyone asks, I have roots in Western NY, so that's how I know the game), did not know that the score was 9-6 (I was on Yahoo Games and my computer has some issues with Java and Firefox), and was playing Stick the Dealer. I was dealt all four jacks with an ace, the up-card gives me Dutchmen if I call, and an opponent had the deal. I ended up passing thinking we were on 8, the dealer picks up, and I throw down the Dutchmen for the set (in turn, of course). After winning, I'm immediately called a bush wacker, and opponents leave all ticked off. Smart play, or not? I fully expect a political thread follower to say they expect nothing less of me.

This is called "people on the Internet are asshats."

/anyone who plays euchre isn't playing with a full deck
//you come out of the womb in MI knowing never to trump your partner's ace

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #155: Back to School

Got my confirmation for Twin Cities marathon yesterday; I'm so excited for this trip. I've been wanting to go for 6 years...

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #155: Back to School

I have no idea what any of that meant...

Euchre is like cribbage, or any other odd card game. It takes a bit, but once you learn it, you will probably love it. Lots of strategery. I used to play hours back in the day. Awesome game.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #155: Back to School

The only card game I played a lot of was canasta. Hours and hours spent playing that with my grandmother over the holidays. I only beat her once. She usually killed me.

Canasta was fun. Hearts/Spades, too, in simpler times. I fear that these games are dying a horrible death, at least in traditional form.

First, euchre is awesome and i played in MN way before going to Michigan.

Second, we just got back from a wedding reception at the St. Paul Town and Country Club. Holy **** is that a nice place. Had a fun time too.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #155: Back to School

Learned Euchre from some WNY kids at school. Definitely a very fun game.

In Houston, should be getting told to do a little bit of work here before too long I imagine, although I also wouldn't be surprised if "early morning" turns into lunchtime

No one under 90 plays canasta. Hearts/spades are a blast to play.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #155: Back to School

I don't recall exactly how you play the game, but Euchre is big in NY? That's a Sconnie game (and Da UP), along with Sheep's Head around these parts. Kind of an ID of where one is from....

In Rochester a lot of people play it, and my uncle was surprised that people outside of Corning play it. Once you pass effectively US-15, though, nothing.

Now that you have so much electronic entertainment, that's what is used to pass the time. Granted, poker has been making a bit of a comeback since that has been shown on many networks such as ESPN, NBC, GSN, and the Travel Channel, but none of the parlour games.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #155: Back to School

Good morning, Lodge. I never played euchre, but I was a huge fan of cribbage. Played it all the time with Mom, but when she died, I lost my playing partner.

Time to head home today, probably a good thing we are in the air during the Viking game. :)

LOL - SNL did a whole skit on that Gangham Style video. Thank God for this place otherwise I wouldn't know what the heck that skit was.

Mentioned it in TRP. I love the song/video, and I have no clue why. Apparently the skit said the same thing, according to soh.
