Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #154: Olympics

Morning Lodge. It's Tuesday. Let's see if it shapes up to be a...you know...Tuesday. Going to the Sox game tonight. Not a drop of rain in sight. Of course, I'm not going with my dad, so that's to be expected.

Hammer - question for you. I'm heading to Detroit on Sunday for work. We're staying at the MGM Grand and want to go to Greektown for dinner. First - are the Tigers at home on Sunday and is it an afternoon game? Second - I've been to two really good restaurants there but I can't remember which ones are which. One is on the side of the street that the Greektown casino is on, the other is across the street. I think that one is the Parthenon. I liked the other one better but can't remember the name. I think I may need to make a reservation especially if the Tigers are home on Sunday afternoon.

Hi there.

I think the Tigers are in Texas this weekend. As for the restaurants, I'm sorry. I can't help you there. :(.

I've eaten at the Parthenon place. It was good, but I'm probably not a good judge of your Greek food. It wasn't as good as what I've had here in MN, at Santorini.

I think my frying pan grew legs  either that or we have a thief on staff at my building. Frying pans don't hide well.

Yes! I think that's it. Thanks!!

Funny story about the Parthenon. Six years ago my folks and I flew to Michigan after my cousin got married and moved there. Her new husband's family is from Bay City and they threw a reception for their friends and family that couldn't make it to Boston for the wedding. They invited us so we went. Flew into Detroit, drove to Ann Arbor (Dad wanted to see the Big House and rest of campus), then drove back in the city to go to the casino and eat in Greektown before heading up to Bay City. My mother orders loukaniko, which is a Greek sausage. She gets it, takes a bite, and says "These are hot dogs." She calls the waiter over, who is not Greek but some foreigner who didn't speak very good English and tried to explain to him that she did not get what she ordered. It was comical.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #154: Olympics

Yeah, I haven't eaten in Greektown in years, but the Parthenon has been regarded as inferior and sub-par compared to its neighbor for as long as I can remember.
