Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #154: Olympics

The local news here this morning just did a segment on the Minnesota State Fair.

Going to a BU Hockey Roundtable lunch today. mookie's going too (I think). Hockey season starts 7 weeks from today!! Though, I'm still not very ready to let summer go.

You easterners should head out this way one year for the Fair. It's something to behold.

7 weeks....oh boy is this great! /Flounder /Animal House

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #154: Olympics

At the fair last night I saw a family pulling a wagon that is larger then pioneers took on the Oregon Trail. For one kid.
Ug.

there's a badge for it on untappd (beer logger app). Not sure I'd want to fly out just for that.

Update on little g for those of you keeping score from home.

Well, his heart surgery went well. Just kidding. :)

Getting ready for kindergarten. School starts in a few days and little g has an awesome teacher and little g is pumped to begin school. School is just another incredible step in his journey. A few years ago it was not known if little g would be capable of going to school. It's now a reality. I am looking forward to see how he does academically. He has been reading books at a first grade level for a few months now. So awesome.

Wheel chair should arrive next week. Cripes, I shouldn't be surprised but I did a double take when I saw the price tag. Highway robbery.

In other news, little g has really been working hard this summer on baseball basics and he has come a long way in a short amount of time. As a result he has joined a baseball league. Miracle League of Central Mn. St. Cloud has a new facility/baseball field designed for people with disabilities. First game is tomorrow.

Thanks for the update! Is the baseball played in wheelchairs?

OK. My heart stopped. I thought I missed something when I was on vacation. Congrats to you all.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #154: Olympics

Welp, minor issue has come up with my departure plans, but it will only set me back 6 hours. So the VW dealership who installed the hitch and programmed the car for it (vehicle has a control module for the hitch, which will display any issues in the driver info screen... pretty neat, when it works...) apparently forgot to program the control module to transmit the brake light signal through the 7 pin connection, so my trailer has no working brake lights at present. However, the running lights, and signal lights all work fine. Soooo, now I will be leaving at daylight and simply turning on my running lights while braking to simulate brake lights. Not entirely fool proof, but seeing how about 98% of my drive is on interstates, I shouldn't need to brake a ton hopefully. I'll plan on getting to my first scheduled stop over (Blacksburg, VA) by sunset tomorrow, then continue as scheduled Monday AM and stop at a VW dealer down in NC on the stretch from Blacksburg to Raleigh, where we are planning to have lunch with some family we haven't seen in several years.

Should be a quick fix, and I fully plan on throttling the VW dealer who FUBAR'ed the install. Going to try to atleast get the labor amount refunded, since the installation wasn't done properly... seems reasonable, right?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #154: Olympics

Evening, Lodge. Amazingly, I still have all my hearing and some of my (limited) sanity left after teaching bugling rudiments at a day camp today. :o

gmann, that's awesome. I hope little g likes 1st grade!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #154: Olympics

Starting off the day with 3 bags of Tom Thumb donuts and 3 glasses of milk at the Fair wasn't the best idea. Immediate food coma. But thankfully I recovered enough to eat a crapload more food. Also saw my first livestock auction. That was....interesting.

And it's a first: didn't see a kid on a leash OR a triple-wide stroller!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #154: Olympics

The full menu of my eats today, in about 7 hours:

3 bags of Tom Thumb donuts, All You Can Drink Milk, Italian Sausage, Great Balls Of Fire (Italian sausage meatballs; with sriracha sauce), a milkshake, a couple beers, part of the red velvet funnel cake, and a gator brat.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #154: Olympics

Tom Thumb donuts are the best. IF I win the lottery I am getting one of dem dere machines.

Sounds more that fair to me. Their fault they didn't hook it up right or at least do a light check with a trailer just to double check.

Oh, something else you might be interested in. On the news here, they're talking about the cruise ship Yorktown. It just ran aground in the detroit river. Apparently, it was out of the channel according to some witnesses. They got tugs on the scene and working on moving it.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #154: Olympics
