The fact that I am hand-on mechanically inclined has been a huge advantage for me as an engineer. I can't imagine doing what I do without that prior knowledge that had nothing to do with actually getting my engineering degree.To this day, the engineers I know personally are of the mechanically inclined variety. For example: WPOS is tearing apart and rebuilding his grandpa's old truck he just inherited. Fear_the _Gopher builds a backyard rink every year that's won some FSN/MN Wild awards.
Ah, yes, the early to mid 90's Chevy Lumina. We stopped installing batteries for those cars at the shop where I worked because it took over an hour to get the battery replaced. It was either that or charge a special fee for servicing those cars. They used special fasteners (that are very difficult to remove without causing damage to the vehicle) to keep the windshield washer fluid tank in place, and then they placed the battery under that stupid thing.
