Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #150: Everyone sucks... except Scarlet

I think I may be the only woman from my high school graduating class not currently expecting a baby or already a parent. Holy crap. Every other post on my Facebook feed is either a massively swollen midsection or a drooling mini-human. Am I an oddity that I am 26 and neither have kids nor the desire for them?

/meaning no offense to tLodge parents, just had to get that off my chest.
I absolutely think you're normal. We are NOT having children and have made that abundantly clear to all parties. Unfortunately, some parties (ahem, future MIL and FIL) have not gotten the message. Future MIL says I'll likely change my mind (unlikely since I've felt this way since middle school AND it is unlikely I can even have kids without medical intervention). Future FIL says we absolutely have to have a son or his lineage is going to die out.

My parents were 31 when I was born and 39 when my younger brother was born, so there's no hurry. My dad needed to finish medical school and they needed to return to the US before my mom would even consider starting a family.

I could fill a thread with stories about peoples need to see Mr les and I pregnant. My mother would fill >900 posts. She went from telling us we had a horrible lifestyle and should never be parents (she has a bit of a tact issue) to seeing her friend become a grandmother and immediately filled with granny-lust. My 2 favorite ones were both trying to be contrary. I guess you will never have kids. All the bedrooms are already filled with furniture (how transparent can you get). My comment was we had nailed the furniture down so would never move it. And the all time foolish one after we bought a car that was not frontwheel drive- I guess you really aren't having children. You can't get up the driveway with that car. I told her if we had a kid and it snowed we would leave it in the car at the bottom of the hill and take our chances. If it froze to death we'd start again. The stupid stuff she said was the other side of annoying and kind of pathetic (esp after listening to her completely serious comments she was glad we weren't parents as we would be horrible ones because we were too busy)
GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!! monday. commence moanin!
I <3 you, les. :)

Nothing of note here. Quiet morning doing laundry and catching up on the interwebs. I didn't do much yesterday except watch tv, do the dishes, and make a gross dinner :(

My parents were 26 and 28 when I was born but I was also #3. I was still telling my wife at 27 no whenever she looked at a baby. our little one was born when both of us were 29 so you are normal.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #150: Everyone sucks... except Scarlet

My mom was 29 when she had me and I was her youngest. Thankfully, at age 30, no one is pushing me to get married or have kids yet.

I'm my mother's only one, and she was in her mid-30's at the time.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #150: Everyone sucks... except Scarlet

Good Morning Lodge.

To stick with the current conversation, my parents were both 22 when I born, and had already been married for 2 years. People grow up faster, get married earlier and have kids earlier on the farm, its just the way it is, errr was, since I think the culture has been changing slightly. On the bright side for my parents, they had both kids out of the house by the time they were in their early 40's, and have been having fun ever since.

For those of you that may be interested, I had a great weekend visiting, and meeting, the gf's family for the first time. Honestly, I don't know if it could have gone better, just an all around great weekend. Got to see PB again, for the first time in about a year, went to a Brewers game and tailgated, got a ride in PB/gf's dad's badass Superbird, got to play some golf with PB, gf, and their grandma and actually played decent after I got into the groove. I caught some **** from the cousins for being the guy wearing a Twins jersey at the Brewers game, but it was expected and all in good fun. I just told them that I want to watch baseball, but it is too sickening to watch my own team, and they understood.

Now its only a few days until the gf goes to Montana for 3 weeks, and 6 days until I go to Sweden for 2 weeks. Busy times.

Note to self... Pitching for 30 minutes straight leads to soreness.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #150: Everyone sucks... except Scarlet

One small entertaining thing about having kids relatively early... our first was when we were both 24. Is now we get to laugh at all the people our age who are finally catching up to us in the kid department... complaining about all the usual stuff. Every time you ask yourself, "was I really like that? Nah, I was ready and knew way more then they did."

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #150: Everyone sucks... except Scarlet

My parents were 21 (Dad) & 20 (Mom) when my oldest brother was born in 1960. They were 38 & 37 when I was born. My mom was the only one to give me grief over having a family, but that all faded away when she lost her ability to remember things. My dad started losing his memory and died too early for that to become and issue, and my brothers are pretty certain that I'd be a complete wreck as a husband, let alone as a father.

I can now get all my emails on my phone and see the board when the filter here shuts it down. Yay, I think.

Future FIL says we absolutely have to have a son or his lineage is going to die out.
Being the last male on our branch of the family tree I was always worried about having to have a son. So much so that when my 2nd daughter was born I had to go have a heart-to-heart with my last remaining aunt (who never married). I was certain I would have to keep trying until we had a son. She just looked at me and said "your dad and grandfather would not have pressured you and neither will I. Do what YOU want to do". That was all I needed to hear. The name may not go on, but the bloodline will.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #150: Everyone sucks... except Scarlet

I'm the last male in my family with the last name as well. The other branches of the family tree decided to only have girls!

Plus you have the family farm there to worry about as well. One of the things about that is that you usually do have to have somebody to pass the farm to when the time comes.

Well, that has been discussed, and from all accounts, the farm is getting passed to me, and what I do with it is my choice. My Grandpa only had 2 kids, my dad and my aunt. My aunt has said that she doesn't want anything to do with the farmland, so my grandpa's will says that my dad gets the land and my aunt gets the cash. Everyone has been OK with this up until this point. Of course, that just gets the land to my parents, but between me and my sister, there won't be any problems...and that is just the land, the "farm" as in the business is owned by my dad, and that is what we've had discussions about for the future.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #150: Everyone sucks... except Scarlet

28, almost 29. That's the age my dad had me.

Haven't given crap number one about kids. Really got soured on the idea in high school when I saw an alarming number of people start getting knocked up in the farking tenth grade and ruining their lives. Combine that with my current "forever alone" status, society's current utter hysteria about "for the children and to hell with anything else," and the hours spent next to a screamer in 17E, and I'm in no rush to get signed up. If down the road I change my mind, I can always adopt.

My sister and her husband are now expecting, so that seems to have put a lid on any cajoling from the family.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #150: Everyone sucks... except Scarlet

Three nephews, so the extremely rare family name is still good. My father had all boys, my grandfather had all boys, and great-grandfather had all boys.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #150: Everyone sucks... except Scarlet

Thankfully there are distant relatives who are continuing the name Baer. I am unmarried and my brother had only daughters. My father's only brother also had only daughters. My father had three male first cousins named Baer, two of whom perished in the Holocaust. The third had one son (my generation) who also has a son, now in his mid-20s. There are also several more distant relatives named Baer.

OTOH, my mother's name has died out going back to the name adoption in the late 18th century.
