Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #150: Everyone sucks... except Scarlet

My dad was almost 31, and mom was almost 28 (within a couple months of those milestones) when I was born, and I also have a younger brother by two years.

From what I've learned over the years, midwesterners just generally like to start their families earlier in life as opposed to the coasts. I'm gonna guess that dates back due to farming needs (in uber-stone-cold-honest terms).
All of my relatives here had kids early except for me. Of course i actually got married first :p

My Scottish relatives in the late 1800s all waited until they were about 26-28 to start reproducing which they then did with a will ( about 10+ kids each)

Nope. Mr les and I were just together at 26 and in those days one did not have a baby without the ring. We waited until I was 34. The rest of our friends have had their kids grad from college. We are still parents of a HS kid.

Dad was 25, Mom was 24 when I came along. Then again, I was a surprise. FM's parents were in mid-to-late 30's when he was born. Ideally, if it happens, I'd like to meet somewhere in the middle.
Also, I agree with Brent's observation. Midwestern couples tend to get down to the baby-production much quicker than counterparts on the coasts from what I've seen.
I guess it's just nice to know I'm not completely losing it on this issue. Going in to the marital shindig, I'm also starting to get the "starting a family" question a lot. Between that and Facebook feeds... gah.

Until you actually have a kid, those questions will never end. I still get the marriage questions.

My family knows better than to badger me. They know they're not going to like what happens next if they start that stuff.

I was 35 when little g was born. I will be 55 when little gII graduates from high school.

When to start a family is definitely a double edged sword. While I was single and living like a rock star my friends were married and raising kids and we were on separate pages. Now those same friends call and want to do things and now the shoe is on the other foot. :)

And that's if one wants to start a family. Nothing wrong with not wanting kids. There are times when I want to see how much I could get for my kids on eBay. :D

Just finished transferring Season 5 of the Big Bang Theory to DVD to send to my friend who refuses to get cable and doesn't have an over-the-air CBS station.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #150: Everyone sucks... except Scarlet

Valid point.
It's not something that is completely off the table. It's more of a, "certainly not right now, and if it happens or not down the road, OK" type of thought. Still, I'm starting to feel like I'm doing something wrong by not reproducing already.
Yeah, Tremaine and I are starting to get that flack about having kids and settling down. frankly, neither one of us are in that big of a rush to have kids, and I don't think either of us are ready for marriage either. Most of it is from her family, given the problems that are going on with my family right now. Hell, She even has her Grandma telling her about having a dream where we had a baby and it all looked like me but darker, and started probing her about being preggers. No, that would really screw up a lot of things right now. Far much easier to just borrow somebody else's kid for a day.

I could fill a thread with stories about peoples need to see Mr les and I pregnant. My mother would fill >900 posts. She went from telling us we had a horrible lifestyle and should never be parents (she has a bit of a tact issue) to seeing her friend become a grandmother and immediately filled with granny-lust. My 2 favorite ones were both trying to be contrary. I guess you will never have kids. All the bedrooms are already filled with furniture (how transparent can you get). My comment was we had nailed the furniture down so would never move it. And the all time foolish one after we bought a car that was not frontwheel drive- I guess you really aren't having children. You can't get up the driveway with that car. I told her if we had a kid and it snowed we would leave it in the car at the bottom of the hill and take our chances. If it froze to death we'd start again. The stupid stuff she said was the other side of annoying and kind of pathetic (esp after listening to her completely serious comments she was glad we weren't parents as we would be horrible ones because we were too busy)
GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!! monday. commence moanin!

Morning!

My first child, if it happened wouldn't be born at least until I was 39. So I guess I am in the waiting category.

Morning Lodge.

Trying out summer hours this week. Gonna try 6:30-4 with half day Friday. Don't want to stay much later than 4 cause the commute will suck. Getting here at 6:30 all the time might be tough. Had to cut my morning exercise routine short and will have to do part when I get home.

ETA: I was 44 when jr was born.

Good Morning, Lodge!

Mr. wore Black and I are somewhat fortunate that he comes from a large family. After one of his cousins has a kid, the rest of the family look at us. A month later, another cousin is pregnant and the family backs off for the next 9 months. At least my side of the family knows that I am not stable enough (yet) to have a child.
