Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #149 - Best adaptation of a movie title-and the lodgie goes

I only mention it because my team at work is trying to hire an intern, and we've had trouble getting a couple candidates past HR. Speculation was that could be the reason, but when you consider my company's fairly liberal attitude towards alcohol consumption, I sort of doubt it.
From many people I've talked to, as long as its a minor alcohol violation, it's moreso viewed as you were caught, others may not have been, as general consensus says almost all applicants drank during college.

Pretty much. If there's a REPEAT, then you probably should worry.

exactly.

So here's the question I'm posed with now. Do I make the 5 hour trek, to try and see what happens in court? Or do I pay the fine and move on?

If you want to be a pain, go and ask for a jury of your peers. BUT be prepared to pay more if it doesn't go your way. If you want it quick and easy (insert joke here), pay and move on.

Edit: for the former, I think if the arresting officer doesn't show up for said trial/hearing, you are off scot-free, hence that option.

This may be a dumb question, but does a citation = a speeding ticket? Both of these are citations, I don't know if that differs in severity from a ticket, etc.

Edit: But with numerous tickets, over 500, would that officer have a greater or lesser chance of being there?

That I don't know.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #149 - Best adaptation of a movie title-and the lodgie goes

That I don't know.
Exactly. I was looking through some websites and emailed a question to a lawyer in Wisconsin to find out more.

If these are just citations, may the just be fines and nothing more? I don't know.

The one thing I've concluded is that Wisconsin sucks. (albeit it was my fault for drinking in the first place.)

Too bad you don't know jmh personally. :p

Yeah, that was a cheap shot.

You're not going to get a jury trial on a misdemeanor charge like that. There's often a minimum threshold for a jury trial, like a gross misdemeanor or greater. *IF* it's anything like what I had happen on a semaphore violation when I was 19, the asst. DA will take you into a room, you explain/haggle a bit over the circumstances, and s/he gives his/her suggestion to the judge, and the judge pretty much follows it. Then you pay a court fee that's almost exactly the same as the violation cost either in lieu of fee or in addition to the fee.

Given that you'd be arguing in WI and you're a kid from MN, they're not likely to be very lenient or caring about your plight. Stories of that state's system should be well known to pretty much every MN resident. I'd just pay the fine and not flaunt the fact that you're drinking while still under the age going forward. Then again, I was never dumb enough to get caught.

This I wholeheartedly agree with. There's a reason behind the lesson (urban legend?) that you don't speed in WI with MN plates.

No, as someone who went to UW, I sadly can confirm that it is very, very true. *******s from cops through judges.

I've only heard stories. Never have sped through WI. Ever. Yes, due to those stories.

1. Thou shalt not kill.
2. Thou shalt not speed through WI with MN plates.

That's the gist of it.

The shalt not kill is not absolute. It's all out-of-state plates, IL has is just as bad.

Hey, I know. I am in support of the death penalty in certain cases. My point was what I was taught. ;)

NOt in our state. Mr showed up and the cop didn't. Another cop testified in his place and Mr got screwed. See previous post somewhere in here.
