Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 142: On the 1000th Post of the Last Thread

Let's say I post a YouTube link and a snarky comment in someone's season thread. Someone claims copyright on that YouTube link. Currently all that can happen is they file a DMCA complaint with YouTube and YouTube takes down the video, and my link goes dead. Fair enough. Joke's already been made, lulz have been had, no harm no foul.

If this bill passed, the government would have the power to SHUT DOWN USCHO over my link from YouTube. Yeah. It's impossible to enforce and pretty much breaks the entire concept of the Internet.

And that says nothing of the ability to shut down any questionable speech over "copyright" violations. Welcome to China.

I hadn't even heard of this...whatever the hell its called bill until this morning, and all I've heard is people *****ing about it. I have no idea what the thing actually is, so put me in the indifferent category. And I don't care enough to actually look into it further.

The concept behind the bill is to give the government power to do something about movies, software, etc. getting pirated from overseas websites (right now they don't have authority to do a lot about them.)

Like I said, however, it basically destroys the entire concept of the Internet. If a user at a news site like Fark or Reddit links to something copyrighted, instead of a legal "hey, cut that out" from the copyright holder the entire site could be shut down under this law.

If you're really serious about piracy, check out the OPEN Act currently in the works. It would give the government power to go after the international pirates themselves without breaking the legitimate Internet.

Okay, that's enough, this is the Lodge. No math, and no more politics. Back to everyone's lives.

Evening, Lodge. Been busy with trying to organize all of the stuff at my apartment, but I suppose I can pay you folks a visit every so often. :p

You are correct sir. My health insurance has been very useful to say the least regarding little g. His medical bill after 8 weeks in the NICU was pretty impressive and the bill for his helicopter ride cost a couple bucks as well. Each month our medical bills add up to quite a bit. Without health insurance it would be nearly impossible to give him the care het gets
and without the care he would probably not be excelling as well either.

I have the bare minimum for health insurance. Just something to cover me if something major comes along. Its one of the perks of being a relatively healthy 27 year old guy. I haven't once used my health insurance since I got onto my own plan.

I would never get the bare minimum, after what i went through back in October, I am so glad i got the "Mid-grade" insurance. And for what it saves me in pill costs and what i pay a year in insurance, it will have paid for itself by March.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 142: On the 1000th Post of the Last Thread

I pay minimum, and it's been awesome, despite some freak things in the past year (pinched ulnar nerve/aka funny bone; and migraines related to a serious sinus infection: basically shut me down for 2-3 days). Total cost, which included special testing and CAT scans for those? About $100.
