Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

The situation gets super complicated (because of the thing he married), and there were tax issues, too, so no. :( Believe me, we tried helping him find EVERY option and there wasn't much that could be done.

And he's a Tech alum. So... yeah, you might be on the right path, kid.

Wait, isn't a Tech alum marrying you?

I keed, I keed. That blows. I probably would have to be verbally restrained in that situation. And maybe absent from certain family gatherings.

Yes, I realize the irony and wide open hole in my logic with that statement. Whatever.
Thankfully, they live overseas (which is ANOTHER rant). Otherwise, the hell if I wouldn't be on my way to Michigan right now to watch heads roll. And my uncle is invited to the wedding next summer, but if she has the audacity to show her face, I'm calling the cops.

I'll be security. Please, can I throw her out? Pretty please, with sugar on top? Don't worry, I'll berate her first, very loudly and in front of everyone. Not related to this situation. More like,

"How dare you show up in this condition?! Drinking and driving is illegal, ma'am! And those pills are NOT prescription, I saw the "label." It looks like a 10-year-old printed it out from his computer! Now, good day! I'd advise you to leave before I notify the authorities!"

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

That's depressing 'diva.

Went out for a Thursday night beverage with a couple of friends to my usual place. Hottie bartender was working at the bar downstairs. Boo. One of the bartenders upstairs was relatively new (he was "in training" a few months ago) and he was not good. Never put our food order in, forgot our bread, missed my friends' request for a refill of wine. Hottie bartender came up to say hi and we said "Dude.....don't ever work downstairs on Thursdays again." The other bartender is a good guy and after chatting with him for a while, turns out he grew up in Arlington and went to the same elementary school, junior high and high school as me, though a few years after me.

Dragged my umbrella with me all day today. Did it rain at all? Nooooo. And it got ridiculously humid out all of a sudden. Precursor to Irene perhaps?
It rained cats, dogs and little puppies up here.

Or, we all go down together. Either or.

Unrelated to conference realignment fuckery, I need a drink. I just got some bad news from home-- my uncle owned the 100 acre farm that has been on my mom's side of the family since the 1800's. His horrible, greedy, straight up c-u-next Tuesday of a wife drained him dry, and she had him sell it to pay off the debt. :( I could go on and on about the horrors this woman has put my uncle through, but it'll just make me want to start punching things even more. 150 years of family history, gone. Just like that.
That sucks!! That farm somewhere in the Traverse City area?? Hope it goes to somebody that wouldn't turn it all into a subdivision. ick.

This!! Followed by a good old fashioned tar and feathering out in the parking lot. ;)

Oh no. I know some guys. They would make her leave town without physical abuse. They are.....how should I say it? Oh I know! "They are from Detroit." I hope that is coded enough. ;)

A general disregard for your own personal safety, it would seem. Seriously though, I wouldn't mess with this weather... the east coast should weaken this storm quite a bit, but only go if you're sure to be safe/sturdy.

Cancelled. The hurricane will now fizzle out before reaching NYC.

'Morning, all. I was going to sleep in until 7am, but between the garbage truck and the squall line that just blew over, that didn't happen. Oh well.

Cedar. Or, if you're unfamiliar with that part of the state, about 20 miles northwest of TC.
And it won't become a subdivision. 10 years ago, my uncle sold the development rights to a land conservancy. Whoever bought it pretty much has to leave it as is, or improve upon already existing structures (which pretty much just includes the foundation from the old house that was on there and the old barn.) My dad and grandfather just did the same thing with the 30 acres they live on/I grew up on, as they were both worried about what his sisters might do after he passes.
So, basically, it may be out of our family, but will never become another McMansionland, and that makes me feel a little better about the whole situation. Emphasis on little.

Nice.

Good Morning, Lodge!

Loading up the car today as I leave for Minnesota tomorrow!

We're just waiting for the demand for very high end lots to go up/spread out far enough to get to one of our farms. We have a farm that is overlooking the Cannon River, we own the farmland on top of the cliff, the whole hillside and the woodland at the bottom of the cliff to the river. There is enough cliff-edge land, overlooking the river valley that we should be able to get 10-15 $1M lots, without sacrificing much farmland, and the land that we would have to sell is ****ty anyway. This isn't one of the original family farms though, I don't see anyone in the family selling off the original farms that have been in the family since the beginning. My grandpa bought this farm in the late 70's for $200k, sold the 5 acres that the house and barn sat on in 1998 for $270k, and we still have millions of dollars of lots to sell off of it, and after selling all of that we'll still 90% of the farmland that we originally bought the farm for. That place is a goldmine.

Well, at least there is that then.

Morning all. At the dealership getting the oil changed, an engine light checked, and because it's going to roll over 100,000 sometime next week, a good overall check of everything on it.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

I guess I should bring in my chairs from the balcony before Irene comes for a visit. And do my food shopping today. God knows what we're going to get hit with on Sunday. I think I may park my car in the T garage Saturday night like I did for the blizzards. My spot is next to a tall pine tree and I'm fearful that it will blow over onto my car.

Off work today. It's really nice out so I may sit by the pool while I still can. Need to pick up some dry cleaning and I think I'll go out for breakfast.
