Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

I might just believe in miracles.
Grandpa has done a complete 180 from Friday night. He's stabilized, his vitals are normal, and while he'll need to be on oxygen the rest of his life they're saying there's no reason why he shouldn't start getting up and around and they're going to start the rehabilitation process working toward getting him home by the end of the week or early next week. So, thank you all for your prayers and good vibes, clearly they worked! :)

Wow! Such good news!

Happy Monday Lodge. Here at work. Who else is working today? Nice commute in this morning. One perk to working on a holiday like this.

Not many non-government people get today off. It's almost a non holiday. Work as usual for my company.

I'm working, but I agree that Columbus day is a 'meh' work holiday. I feel Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Easter, the 4th and Labor day are the only 'real' work holidays.

Then again, there are no 'work holiday day offs' on the boat, it's strictly a rotation and if you're lucky you will be off for some of the more important holidays. I'm supposed to work for Thanksgiving, home for Christmas, but back at work for New Years.

parents left this morning to head back home... miss them already... feeling better today than i have the last couple... unsure if its the re-assurance of caring parents or the new balance of meds. This all just help remind me that i have people who really care about me. Of course this whole episode is making more empathetic.

This is a holiday? Not even the schools are off today and they close for any excuse. I thought it was just an excuse for another sale by some stores.

Well it has been 519 years since the guy did anything of note.

With all the government types off work, the roads get very clear. The easiest commuting I had all summer was when the State got shutdown for a couple weeks.

ETA: Oh, and we bank-types are off today because there's not much we can do when the Fed doesn't operate, though I'm going in late for a half-day.

Really? Schools are closed here. Actually, all of our Massachusetts and Rhode Island offices are closed today except us here in home office and in Hopkinton. We swap this one with Patriots Day in April. We get that one off because our office is at the end of the Boston Marathon and all the streets around us are the family pick up areas and it's very hard to get in and around this area that day. And Hopkinton is the start of the marathon route, so same issue with those folks.

i can't say that's the worst swap... do you get veterans day? Must be very easy to get into work on days like these.

Nope. We don't get MLK Day or President's Day either.

Well, you're not a teacher or a mail carrier so why would you? ;)

Our hockey association is, once again, struggling to find coaches for the C teams. I'd do it, but I'm too poor of a skater to coach these kids. How do I tell them anything about their game when I'm so bad at it? There are two dads in this group who have great hockey backgrounds who won't step up. I know they have older kids and likely did a lot when those kids were young, but you need to chip in for every kid. I know parents with three kids in hockey and they do something (coach, assistant coach, manage, or something) for EVERY kid they have skating.
