RV's, grain bins, indestructible drill bits, kitchen countertops, tractors, pulled turkey sandwiches, off brand sham-wows, beer, lawn mowers, aligator sausage, hockey jerseys, snowmobiles, snow plows, snow cones, snow blowers, snow geese, snow skis, snow shoes, snow tires, chocolate chip cookies, art, trinkets, chainsaw carvings, dumptrucks, beer, t-shirts, chicken fried bacon, concert tickets, gopher season tickets, hats, motorcycles, corn fritters, chocolate malts, toilets, landscaping rock, water heaters, pets, sweet corn, root beer, beer, french fries....

I now have "Hardware Store" by Weird Al stuck in my head.

To stay on the topic of the fair. I was just thinking, what would be the worst food, health-wise at the fair. I immediately thought, cheese curds, deep fried twinkies, and pail of cookies, but really I think the worst possible food you could eat the the state fair is the Australian Battered Potatos, which are potatos, battered and deep fried, covered in about a half cup of ranch dressing and another half cup of nacho cheese. Those things have to be the highest calorie single food item there.

He won't do that song in concert because he doesn't think he can pull off the entire list in one shot any more :(

I know. This actually ties into the state fair conversation, as I saw him there last year. It was awesome, except that he didn't do "The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota". I heard it was for the same reason as the other song. He isn't sure he can remember all of it.

Anyone interested in a non-TK's night on the town tonight? I'm going to TK's tomorrow night and I'm thinking I should try somewhere else tonight.

Lining up Dark and Stormy's for the EastCoasters this weekend. (Hurricanes were waaaaay too obvious.)

Party on! I'm going to drag out my kite and have some fun!

Do they have deep-fried butter? Or is that just the Texas fair?

And are you picking me up tomorrow, or are we cabbing both ways?

No butter at the MN fair. Except for the butter carvings.

I haven't planned that far ahead yet. I don't know what my plan will be. I might be going to the fair instead of working on the house, if you're interested.

Ditties and Kitties on standby for the East Coast.

JFC. God owes you guys an apology.

We're west of Red Wing, East of Cannon Falls, right next to the Welch Ski Area. We have 4 different farms on the hills on the south side of the river, 1 is west of the ski area, one is directly above the ski area and 2 are east of the ski area. It adds up to about 4000 acres (mostly wooded with about 1500 tillable) in the bluffs around Welch.
You guys have any timber harvested off of those wood lots??

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

Fair yesterday was fun, tiring and expensive, could get more expensive as Mrs and I are considering buying a Sleep Number bed on fair special.

I have a sleep number. If you get the dual chamber design, I'd highly recommend going with the king size if your bedroom has the space. I bought a dual chamber at the queen size and the air bladders just aren't wide enough. Then again, I'm a fat, fat man with pretty wide shoulders even for that year when I was thin fifteen years ago, so that might impact my opinion of it.

You can buy anything. Furniture, cars, camel, etc...

You can buy the whole camel, but not just the toe. Odd.

Butter carvings??
The MN Dairy Farmers Assoc sponsors them. You can see the bust of Princess Kay of the Milky Way carved in butter, and I think they do a few other things, similar to those old soap carvings from the 70's and 80's. The PKofMW bust gets melted down after a year, just prior to the next year's fair, and used in a corn roast for charity. In years past, the girl who wins the pageant must be a real dairy farmer's daughter, so it's not generally top-notch talent for the girls. The last two or three I've seen on the TV have been on the corn-fed-heifers side of things.

I just got back from my massage about 45 minutes ago. My shoulders are on fire, and I'm apparently all knotted up throughout my entire back. And thing at the end where she runs her hands lightly across my back tickles and was really the only thing that made me tense up at all. I didn't like that part as much as the rest.

False. The wisco side sucks donkey balls (that was the second half of my ride).

I biked on that highway for the ALA back in the day, the Lake Pepin route. It's awesome. And there's a cafe in Lake City MN (?) that has Pepin (Apple) Cider. AWESOME cider. The name of the cider may also be off a little (hey, it's been 20 years) but it IS awesome.

You're too old to remember any useful details. I rode it < 2 weeks ago - and it gave me additional proof of wisconsin's suckitude. :p
The scenery was much better on the MN side (as was the road). On the WI side, the road bends away from the water in several spots so you can't even see it anymore. Plus it's hillier with far fewer bluffs.
