Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

It has a little pitch to it, you'd have to be an idiot to bike on Ramsey Hill.
Grade maxed out at 14% per my coworker's Garmin readout. Oh, and I biked it twice. :p

Reason: we rode the short (15 mile) loop twice + the Lilydale loop (9 miles). Should've done the Lilydale the first time around (would've spared us a second go at that awful hill). Unlike the vast majority of riders out there, we did not get off our bikes and walk it. The approach to the High Bridge was pretty grueling too. All told, I did just under 61 miles (accounting for the ~22 going from my place to St. Thomas).

Eastbound on Summit can be tough too, not steep but seemingly never ends.

Route was clockwise - start @ St. Thomas and head south on Mississippi Blvd, east on Shepard Rd, north on that awful hill, and then west on Summit. Had I done the 30 mile loop, that would've gone north to Phalen and west past lake Como.

I highly recommend doing this thing to casual and serious cyclists alike - nice scenery, lots of rest areas that are stocked with food/water, and the city does a nice job shutting down most of the roads along the route. The only time traffic really comes into play is once you hit Summit, since that road isn't shut down - but you still have a bike lane and a few feet to the right of that with parking not being allowed on that side during the event.

Handle one part of the day at a time. Talk yourself thru 9AM, then 11 AM then thru Lunch, etc. Meds take a bit to kick in. They will work better as time goes on.

thanks, les.

I think in the end there will be some blessing out this... right now i'm sitting on my couch watching football/tennis. The one thing I certainly can't do right now is focus too much on any one thing. So, I'm just laying on the couch and relaxing. To be honest, this is a real opportunity to deflate my brain... except of course that i have to work tomorrow. Some of the chores are piling up.... I'll get to a couple of them.

As I told my doctor and I told my mother, I just want to go back to last Thursday when things were normal. Nevertheless, if I can work my way back to normal then having the anti-anxiety drugs will help me out in other ways. Of course, I may have to cut habits out of my life... less internet... more of a steady determined pace as opposed to a flow of consciousness pace.

At this point I am glad I have the federal job, if I'm useless for the next few months I can get away with it. Happy, oh, heck no. I still have a technical write-up to work through... but until my body chemistry and brain settles I have to hold to what I have.

edit: you know, I've debated from time to time if I'd give up my intelligence to lead a normal mundane happy life... assuming one could ever really make that swap... I'm half wondering if I'm going to be living that option. Probably not but stuff like this certainly makes you reassess your station in things and re-assess where you are.

Sounds like a neat event.
I bet the route from Phalen to Como takes you on Wheelock Pkwy. That would be a bear to bike from ~Rice Street going west, winds up and switchbacks around quite an incline.

Yep, it hits Wheelock and then Como Ave before hitting the river and heading back south to the campus.

I think registration was a little over $20 - well worth it given the resources deployed out on the route. It's a huge draw too - there had to be thousands of riders out there this morning.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

With the addition of my 2nd job, I'll be working 70+ hours a week.

Also, I do not know how I feel about being called "our special Yooper". Almost got a 2nd tattoo today though.
I assume you're working the second job because you're in a financial situation that you'd like to get out of...so why would you spend money needlessly on a tattoo? Wouldn't it make more sense to put that tattoo money toward whatever financial issue you're having?
So, yeah, I just opened a Twitter account. I have no idea how this works. Do I ask for followers? How many of you guys have Twitter accounts?
Yup. Sarahblue2. I don't post as much as I used to.

Checking in. First week down and it was a bit overwhelming. I'm feeling better after taking a look at the syllabi and writing out a schedule. Lots to do, but with some organization, manageable.
Went to see the Dropkick Murphys and Mighty Mighty Bosstones at Fenway on Friday. It was AWESOME! :D Worked the ambulance yesterday at Bras Across the River - a fundraising event for breast cancer. Pretty quiet shift, which was a blessing since I only got 2 hours of sleep.

Look who you're asking.

@thejoshp for my Twitter.

Not that I have much of value to say. :o
Mine is @pipershouse920

After the Chicago marathon, I decided I'm going to file the papers and become a legitimate business under Michigan's Cottage Food law.

Coming down with an anxiety disorder sucks. I feel like crap, medication is mitigating things but work is going to be downright miserable tomorrow.

"ooooooh.... XIETY!!"

always makes me think of the movie. love it. (sorry... :()

First few weeks is always tough. Nsg school is slightly different than other majors I think. Very focused, directed and not a lot of wiggle room for changing things around or working out a schedule that might have a better chance of sanity. Hang in there. You have been so focused in the past to get here that you know you have the stuff to make it! Give me a holler if I can help- I am pretty close by.

They teach Applied Logic in some schools, but like kindergarten, Admiral AcPro thought it better to skip it.

I promise I could fix you. Just spend a month worth of weekends with our crew and you won't have any problems, except for possible cirrhosis of the liver.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

So short story to my weekend: I almost got shot by some psycho Yooper for turning around in her driveway

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 137: Counting the long summer days

You were at ctf's house?

Nope, and this physco's exact quotes were "next time you do it you have 2 options 1: a bullet between the eyes and then i unless my dogs or 2: the reverse of that, and Im from Texas and I can do that"

later in the day we were out shooting and she comes down the road ******ing about something and it was "my gun maybe pink but it still works and i know how to use it" I dropped to the ground real quick not wanting to find out if she did
