Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 136: Again?

Really, the whole idea of tipping is dumb. Why shouldn't the restaurant just pay the servers a decent wage and throw a couple bucks more one each menu item. It would make much more sense.

Especially given that with most locations with such wage systems, the tips are equally distributed.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 136: Again?

I make 2.50 an hour, my tips aren't shared, I give 2.1% of my sales to tip pool for the host and bartender. That means I'm paying their wage out of my pocket if I don't get tipped.

But... if you earn less than minimum wage (after tips), your employer is supposed to pay you the state minimum wage for your hours worked. (At least, that's how I remember it from a few people I knew in college)

And you actually report your cash tips? Sucker. ;)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 136: Again?

Ralph, you sound like me - I have a saturn and just took it to a VW (used to be saturn) dealership to have stuff done. :D
It's continuing my string. Every dealership where I have bought a car has gone out of business before I got rid of the car. I don't think that anyone will want to sell me another. :D

yeah, but what we're saying is, you should be getting paid $6.50 an hour (or whatever min. wage is now), so we wouldn't have to tip. Wouldn't it be much better for you if you just got a paycheck from the restaurant and didn't have to worry about tips at all?

I consider bartenders/alcohol different though, I'll tip them, so I can get better service when there is a mass of people at the bar, and get stronger drinks.

They base it off of two weeks, which means they never ever pay extra.
If we don't claim >12% of our sales, we could have to be retrained or could be fired.
Also, in this calculation, they don't subtract the amount we paid to the tip pool. Absolute BS in my opinion.

Bartenders make twice as much an hour as us.

I'd rather tip a bartender, considering their the ones actually producing what I'm about to consume. Plus, what bbdl said--if I tip well on the first few drinks, I am served VERY well the rest of the evening.

In terms of waiters/waitresses/servers, I think it is garbage that so much of their pay is based on tipping. Just pay them a standard wage, and if they get a little something extra for doing well, good for them, but don't make it a requirement of the customer.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 136: Again?

I think the concept of tipping is good, as it adds an incentive to provide exceptional service. Of course, if 15% is "standard", that defeats the purpose of tipping, since even mediocre service will manage to get that.

getting paid to sit around the apartment and do nothing today. might drive a crewing van tomorrow to pick up/drop off some guys, who knows.

It's not a requirement for the customer most places.

I agree less of their wage should be based on tipping, though. It's also garbage that hosts/hostesses get tipped.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 136: Again?

Last week was nice, 80s and slightly humid, today its barely 50 and I have the furnace on, nice summer so far:rolleyes:

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 136: Again?

It was pushing 100 last week. This week it's been about 75 all week, lows in the high-40's - low 50's.

What a ****show of a day. I burned nearly 4 hours traveling to, waiting in, and coming back from, an IRS building. Saw some idiot get belligerent with a security guard and get arrested after being told at 12:15 that he was going to have to come back after lunch. Lunch is from 12:30-1:30, and there were 6 of us ahead of him. This knucklehead couldn't comprehend the fact that 7 of us weren't going to get served in 15 minutes, when some before me were waiting in excess of 2 hours. Word of advice: When you're in a federal building, don't call the security guard a mother****er and threaten to kick his honky ***, among other things. I think I got taken care of before 4 people that got there before me, right after lunch. :D

I read this as saved. Made me laugh.

And in good news- fro the first time since 4/8/11 I have finally gotten all my charts caught up. All of them. More than 40. Took 7 1/2 hours. If I was a drinkin' woman I would be drinkin'. Instead I get to have a bite of ice cream and yell w00000000000000t!!!!!!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 136: Again?

Remember when MNS broke his nose? Why didn't we think of this?:

(859):

While you were in the ER we decided to tailgate in the parking lot until security told us that's not allowed.
