Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 136: Again?

Mornin' all!

It's official! I made I through high school and graduated last night!

I also won a futon at the party afterwards, so that was nice!

Hope everyone's having a great friday!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 136: Again?

People that drive manual transmission cars have no clue how much different it is to shift without a syncro until they've tried.

I have an old Ford, 1957 850, rarely shift it, start it in the gear you want and thats where it stays. Most folks on here aren't old enough to have seen a vehicle without syncros

Or don't drive the right kind of vehicles. I've driven fairly new trucks with non-synchronous transmissions. When you get the hang of them, and actually figure out the engine speeds when the gears mesh, it isn't tough at all to do. It is just really weird for people that are used to the clutch, to shift a stick without using the clutch or double clutching.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 136: Again?

Went and got my yearly physical the other day. She wanted to do routine bloodwork... got a call from the nurse today that there was a prescription for Vitamin D @ the pharmacy for me. Normal levels are at least 60, lowest the nurse had ever seen was 13. Mine was an 8.

Trucks or Pick Ups, most folks on here don't drive trucks either:D. The latest non syncro vehicles I can think of would be early 60s 3 speeds in Fords or Chevys, 3 on the tree come to mind where 1st wouldn't be syncro but 2nd and 3rd would be

I'm talking trucks, not pickups. We have a Freightliner with a 10 speed and 2 Volvos with Super 10's. Also, we have a Ford 8000 Series tri-ax with devil of all engine-transmission combinations, the 13-speed/CAT 3208. That thing is a complete POS.

Double clutching should be second nature driving stuff that big.

I usually don't double clutch, I prefer to just shift without the clutch. It takes a little longer for each shift, but that doesn't bother me. All three of our trucks slide out of gear at 1800rpm and slide back in at 1200rpm, shifting is as easy as slipping out of gear while simultaneously letting off the accelerator, let the engine speed drop, when it hits 1200, slide into the next higher gear and get back on the pedal. The super 10s are easier, every-other shift you only have flip the splitter switch and let off the pedal and it will slide into the next gear, then the next shift you have flip the splitter switch back down while shifting gears.

The 13 speed is a completely different story. As one professional trucker told me "there isn't a person on this earth that can shift that *er without grinding the gears, just jam it into gear hard, don't wait for the gears to mesh" :p

Argh, have to work overtime on Saturday, and some people here are making me angry. Anyone have any spare bacon I could have?

:raises hand: I had one of those. I cried when it died. The engine block cracked somewhere north of 150K miles. (they rolled the odometer way back before I bought it and it had 125K when it died)

Good Evening, Lodge!

Didn't get the Graphic Designer job in Buffalo, MN. Still looking...

cc Scarlet: Yes, I definitely would want to move to Boston.

Heh. I finally gave up and put someone on ignore. I knew they like to post but didn't realize how much until the thread just shrank by 90%. :D

I have plenty. My dad suddenly declared himself Kosher so I'm left with more pork products than I know what to do with.
