Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #13^2: Independence!

HBD, Jr!

So, it was an average day of work...until 4:45 (edit: half hour before our cutoff). Then our volume in the system doubled, due to just about a half dozen orders. Got home at about 8pm, instead of the projected 6:30ish (at the latest). I had my suspicions, and upon arriving at the main building, had this convo with DHBoss:

Me: What was with the huge late orders?
DHB: That is not something that is being looked at with happiness right now. There was...a heated debate.
Me: So it's what I thought it was...right?
DHB: Yes. And we are moving to not have that happen again.

The problem: Huge orders (our avg order is maybe 3 items; these orders were in the 50+ range) were being delayed until the end of the day before they were entered, b/c the sales staff didn't want to enter them in the middle of the day; too time-consuming. Therefore, it totally screws us, as we have PTers leaving mid-afternoon, and are left a bit short-staffed (as volume generally dies out as the afternoon goes on). Yeah. Needless to say, I think the wrath of DHB was felt by the sales staff.

Business Rule #293: There is always a disconnect between sales and operations. :D

Ya think? :p

We HAD cured this problem once, but a couple years ago, when we all merged the branches into a couple buildings, there was a huge staffing change, so a lot of new people from other branches. They'll learn. OH, THEY WILL LEARN.

Our sales team will sell services we don't even do yet, then hand off the project and everyone else gets to figure out how to implement it.

My favorite was always the salesperson who asked, "I know it's 4pm, and this was ordered at 10am, but can you find the package on the truck, and cancel the order?"

Yeah, sure, one of us is going to dig through 3/4 of a 52' trailer looking for a 5"x6"x3" box. Moran.

Anyone in MN have recommendations for a good Sunday afternoon lunch date?

Amazingly, I've never been there, but that Crossroads Deli was recommended to me by a buddy this past weekend. And I know I've heard good reviews by the local rags over the years.

No. Not worth a $14,000 plane ticket, it'd never get approved. Besides, it got resolved today.
Eh, Pity. Would be a pretty cool trip to do sometime if you can stretch it out to have a little down time there as well on the company nickel.

Yeah, that's BS. Big orders should be getting entered in as soon as possible, and not left hanging until the end of the day.

So this isn't a problem that only I have to deal with? (replace "services" with "products") I swear....some days.....most days....sales makes me want to stab people.
