Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 127: So This is the New Year...

Morning, Lodge! Still in PA - getting ready to pack up and head back to NH. Not really looking forward to the drive or the weather when we get there. There's only an inch of snow here in PA, but apparently there is 12-16 back in NH. :(

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 127: So This is the New Year...

Good morning Lodge! Still snowing, but not as bad as it was yesterday/last night. They're expecting another 1-2" to fall, plus it's still very windy. I want to go out a little later to see if my spot was plowed out before I decide to move my car out of the T garage. Not sure if I'll be able to make it to the movies. Maybe one, the 7pm one. The storm should be done by then. We'll have to play that by ear. Will probably watch The Town this morning.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 127: So This is the New Year...

Good morning! Sunny today....nice. :)

Our Peewees scrimmaged a team last night (Elk River) and we only had 9 skaters available out of 15 (3 D traveling for holidays, 4 forwards out with flu). We were apologetic to the opposing coaches before the game since they drove a ways for this scrimmage, said we hoped we could give them a decent game anyway. At the end of one it was tied 1-1, but they had outshot us like 10-3 and it was in our end the whole time. I was running the clock so I could hear their coach. He was ALL over these kids. I heard him say "if you want to have fun, go play baseball, I want hockey players who will play hard all the time." He was like that the whole time on the bench. If my kid played for a guy like that I'd pull him out of hockey if he didn't quit first. It was a scrimmage between B2 teams for Parise's sake! We beat them 4-2, bet it was a fun ride home. :)

Good God......the coach is insane. When I coached mini-mites our association had two teams (~30 kids in each group) and the guy running the other time was like the ER coach. We'd scrimmage for fun and I'd throw 6 kids on the ice (goalie got to play center next shift and take the face-off, kids loved that!) and tell them to have fun. Other guy is yelling at his players to "play their **** positons!" He couldn't figure out why I ended up with 40+ kids at the end of the year....

still in massachusetts... booked a flight from manchester to washington this evening... i hope the flight holds out.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 127: So This is the New Year...

Good morning Lodge.

les, tough situation with the meal and the lateness.

Xmas with the inlaws went ok in an odd sort of way. The kids had a blast but the adults barely spoke to each other. I made several attempts to break the ice by trying to start conversations but nobody was willing to return the favor. (However, bil got more talkative as the night went along if you know what I mean)

It's interesting that last winter, while you were in DC, we had the worst winter since I moved here in 1974. This year, you were out of town when snow was predicted, and we got the typical lots-of-panicking-but-virtually-no-actual-snow. Maybe you should stay up there. :D (Just kidding. I hope that you manage to get back. If Census is similar to here, hardly anyone showed up. Most everyone was out of town and couldn't get back.)

yeah. My SIL has some serious issues (I think diagnosable) when it comes to time stuff. My bro sort of flaps his hands and says he is mad but it keeps happening. Yest they showed up at 12:15 for the 11 brunch. Lame excuse that she had a hard time getting going. I was not gracious. I am sick of being gracious. I was very blunt. It made for some uncomfortable moments but I am sure it will make no difference. :(

Your in-laws win tho. Maybe next time you should bring your book or kindle and sit like you are in a boring business meeting? :D

Ventured outside to check my spot. It's clear. Walked over to get my car. Roads are clear but none of the sidewalks are. Having lunch at Regina Pizza now and saw that a Five Guys is opening in this complex. Sweet! No movie day today as my friend went out to shovel and fell. Just as well as it's still kind of a mess and it's wicked windy.

Back from a fantastic ski vacation. Just settling in with some lunch and going to watch my beloved Air Force Falcons play Georgia Tech in the Independence Bowl a bit later.:)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 127: So This is the New Year...

Final score from the Independence Bowl

Air Force 14
Georgia Tech 7

Air Force plays stellar defense and wins the game to finish 9-4 on the season. The Falcons have compiled four consecutive winning seasons and gone to four straight bowl games in four seasons under Troy Calhoun. Great job men. Enjoy the winter semester, hit the books and get healthy for spring football practice.

Job well done men. Congratulations!

[third verse]
Here's a toast to the host
Of those who love the vastness of the sky,
To a friend we send a message of his brother men who fly.
We drink to those who gave their all of old,
Then down we roar to score the rainbow's pot of gold.
Here's a toast to the host of men we boast, the U.S. Air Force!

It was a good game; I enjoyed it with a slice of homemade margherita pizza. Time to settle in for the night and enjoy Saints vs. Falcons, perhaps with a glass of Merlot.

Dinner for The Shots was Caesar salad topped with Maryland crab cakes and accompanied by a glass of Meritage wine to celebrate the Falcons' defeat of the Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech.:)

BBQ pork chops were on the menu at the Hammer Palacial Estates. I think that's the first time in at least a week that I've actually cooked.

Garlic/herb pork loins with cauliflower/carrots here. And ditto about the cooking. Hard to get motivated when you don't eat your dinner until 8-8:30.
