Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 118: BoredboredboredBORED

cooking experiment round 1... set off the heat part of the smoke alarm twice... it never extended to the entire building... burned the pan. both times not paying attention to cooking oil while trying to do something else.

Came out decent... I'm prepping for a second round tonight after kickball... I'm cooking something that I'll want to eat after re-heating for breakfast.

Howdy Folks
Need to finish the south side roof today

Not going to happen, got bigger part done but man the sun is killing me up there. Have to go at it again later but for now I'm chilling in the 68 degree basement:D

What the hell are you making?

He did 1100 miles with three drivers. Legal's record is a little short of mine (that Denver drive I did in '08 was about 930 miles - I did that solo with just two stops for gas and one stop to empty the bladder). Quiz has us all beat with the driving record, though - I think she's driven from Boston to Denver in a day and a half (and she's obviously made the Denver-Minneapolis drive a few times and also drove from Denver to Milwaukee in '06).

Her record was Michigan City, IN to Denver in 15 hours. She did it in one shot. She and I can do the Denver-Minny drive in one day no problem together

They have sex in Breaking Dawn.
So did Titanic, but I'm not watching that to get my Pron Fix. :p

I don't remember. I think it had something to do with the internet. Just like I have no idea why USCHO had a bash next door to my dad's house, or why Hoovs appeared in my dad's garage.

I warned you, it was strange.
Yep.

I did have a 2700 mile weekend last August. Drove up to GR to pick up some friend and between the four of us, all drove down to Canyon, Texas for a football game and then back, all of us taking turns sleeping in the van. Amazingly, the guy among us thats a notorous lead foot wasn't the one that got pulled over in Texas for speeding. And I was laying down at the time as well. I did pretty much have everybody else all gang up on Eric there to make sure he got some sleep before he drove any on the way back, because I don't think he got any sleep on the way down, and was being extreamly ****y at dinner after the game. On the way down, I drove most of Illinois and about 2/3rds of Misery til we hit some fog in the Ozarks and I was too tired to keep trying feeling the road anymore. On the way back, it wasn't until Joplin, Mo till I let somebody else have the wheel. Did a bit thru Illinois, thru Chicagoland til I dropped them off in GR. Then drove myself home.

Did also go all the way to Duluth last fall, driving all the way there myself. That was a good 1400 round trip there. Did have several breaks in the driving there.

Also did went to Springfield, Mass. via Canada in one shot. about 700 miles one way. Though I did stay there a few days anyways, because I had the room booked for the whole tournement, and GVSU was bounced out the first game.

I did about 800 of the 1100 yesterday.....and the 2200 the two weeks prior before we started for home. :) We decided before we left to see how we felt once we got to Rockford and decided in for a penny in for a pound and I'm glad we pushed through otherwise we'd just be getting home.

We did it in about 20 but that included stops in Charleston, WV and Columbus, OH for a total of ~1.25 hours plus a huge traffic backup on I70 east of Columbus cost us at least an hour.....grrrrr. ;)

My back hurts just reading about these long *** drives. One of the results of a bulging L5-S1 disc.

I need to get out and stretch/walk every 1.5 hours or so, else I seize right up.

Nice surprise, Comcast added a boatload (I think everything they have) to HD in the 800 channel range. Anyone know when this happened?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 118: BoredboredboredBORED

I don't watch much racing, but is the engine in a NASCAR car supposed to come completely out when they crash?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 118: BoredboredboredBORED

Don't Christian groups boycott Target as well?
Umm, no. :p

Another very busy day today. This "boycott" is going to kill us!!! :D

The best part was seeing the husband of someone who was adamant yesterday that the only reason they were there was to use a gift card and they would not be back afterwards. I guess they realized what their alternatives were. :D

Isn't sex with a vampire technically sex with a corpse? No offense to Buffy Summers, but ... that is still wrong, right?

No... that's never a good thing. That must've been a monster hit. Luckily he wasn't hurt but I'm sure it left a mark.

Twilight is set in Wisconsin? Does that mean that cheeseheads sparkle?

Evening, Lodge. My 'weekend' starts now. :o

2nd time a lot better... more recipe adjusting to do to my tastes... its going to be an unconventional breakfast... but I'll eat it.

Due to the layout of my apt, and an oversensitive heat smoke detector, I cannot use my oven whatsoever (the stovetop never sets it off, though). Even though I don't miss using the oven (probably would only use it to cook up frozen pizzas or something), it still p*es me off.

And no, there's no way to actually fix it. I've tried to convince mgmt to change the detector (every apt is like this, also, I've heard them go off once in a while), but to no avail.

It does lead to more creative cooking recipes, though.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 118: BoredboredboredBORED

Either use a fan to dissipate the heat or tape a piece of dry ice to the detector while using the oven.

Last time I used the oven was at an F5 get-together, and we used a fan. It sucks to hold a fan up there while the food cooks.

Oh, dry ice, great idea! I have some spare dry ice in the freezer. :p

well, in my case its due to my own stupidity... I just don't want to be "that guy" (the one who got the fire department to his place)... what I do is a throw open the freezer and then figure out anything else to get the temp under control.

Still, this worked out fairly well for a non-cook like me. If I like the taste of it (broccoli chicken stir-fry recipe) re-heated I'll do it again.

Most of it is organization and learning from mistakes. I'm not a born cook but I do like to be able to pull it off when I need to... it feels somewhat rewarding... before I clean :)

Dunno if it's hard-wired or if it uses a battery (mine's hard-wired), but if it's the latter, just take the battery out when cooking. :)
