Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 117: It's The Dog Days of Summer

The g family will be spending the weekend in cityslickerville.

I would like to take the little g's for a train ride. Do any of you cityslickers have any recommendations to a tourist trap that offers train rides? :)

If BPH was here, I'm sure he'd direct you to: http://www.mtmuseum.org/

You can also take them on the light rail or Northstar Line. In fact you could park your car up north and hop on Northstar to get into the city.

Morning Lodge. Warm here in my office. I better look into that...my guy who looks after that is on vacation this week and it's supposed to be hotter tomorrow. :(

Our HVAC guy is here on a daily basis, one would think he would eventually get the problem figured out.

Yes, BPH heped me last year. Thanks for the website as that is the one I was looking for but for some reason I could not find via Google.

(The little g's are trainaholics. Anything I can do to assist in them getting their train fix/having a good time is what this weekend is all about.) We will also be visiting the Como Zoo and a couple other places of interest.

I went running today in Greensboro, and it actually looks like an enjoyable place. I think I'll be able to handle it here on my days of sitting reserve.
It is a pretty area, and you'll enjoy the weather more once it cools off a little in September. I haven't visited Greensboro proper, so I can't comment on the actual life style there. :o

One thing you may want to check out sometime, though not actually a train is the steamboat minnehaha. http://www.steamboatminnehaha.org/ It is a restored steamboat that was originally a part of the streetcar system of the TC. Back then you could take the streetcars to the end of the rail and get on the boat to go to the amusement park on Big Island. You can take a nice ride on the lake and see the operating steam engine on the boat.

Guess I was late to the party. :o

But, yeah, the streetcar lines and the train museum are the main games in town for historic varieties of train. If you feel like going out to Osceola, WI, MTM has a longer train ride across the St. Croix River. The Friends of the 261 have periodic excursions too. Also, there's another outfit I've never visited - the Iron Horse Central between Chisago City and Lindstrom. As far as I know, the Iron Horse Central is the only group with an actual steam locomotive operating right now, since MTM's three steamers are all down for major repairs, as is Milwaukee Road 261.

One other possibility - try contacting the Minnesota Garden Railway Society. I know the webmaster, Rod Eaton, and he might be able to put you in touch with someone willing to show off their line.

EDIT: And goldy mentioned what I'd forgotten, with the Minnehaha. :o

If the lil'gs like lil trains there's also: http://www.tcmrm.org/

I've been asked to a do a facility assessment for the building they're in as they may buy it. One of our Principals is a board member. Have not done so yet.

Thanks. Went there last year. Neat place if you are into model RR's. The g's need the real thing and besides little gII would probably destroy the place and I would end up washing dishes to pay for the damages. :)

Afternoon, Lodge. Nothing to add, but that never stopped me before...

Good Afternoon. In Grand Forks for the week. It is extremely windy here.

I'm trying to figure out what my next move is with the lovely waitress. No, I don't think I need advice from you guys. :p

The central hub for rumors about Tech hockey is the Sherwin-Williams paint store downtown where several Tech posters work.

Not "several posters". One poster.

Hi, Lodge. I'm in Houghton, and apparently doing my MRS degree from NMU proud  --I brought cookies and immediately started cleaning things.
