Red Stripe... hooray... meh.

All part of the new beer "program" I've put myself on... a 6 pack of something different if I can help it.

It's fun. Although it costs more, try the build your own sometime. You'll find a couple good ones, usually.

I'm working through my beer ignorance... I figure its something I can do as I'm not out hitting the bars or anything. Give at year and I'll know things. At least that's what I figure.

edit: I'd like to give a hand at home brewing... but my ignorance of beer is way too high right now. Some time in life... I'll do it. Next 10 years.

If you have an Old Chicago near you, that's the bestest way. A friend did the math: if you have only 2 beers per week there, you'll dam near have a full beer tour completed in a year (104 out of 110), and you earn stuff along the way. Free stuff for drinking beer, while experiencing new beers? Win.

If you are not able to attend Summerfest, I will be more than glad to take the tickets. ;)

I've actually been to Summerfest. What a waste of time. Well, except for the bands I saw: Frogs/Bad Religion/Pearl Jam. 9th row, center. :D

Nearest Old Chicago is in Wilmington, NC.

there's a couple of bars, Brickskeller (DuPont Circle) and RFD (Regional Food and Drink, Chinatown) which have a ton of beers but both are high traffic places and pricey. Unless I have a group of friends I'd rather do something low key.

I think you guys have it all right going out in Minnesota land.... seems like a bigger easy going mid-sized town. Either that or all of you are that laid back.

I am subject to see Rush on July 3rd with Mr. wore Black. I plan on attending Summerfest a few other times to see some other shows. Also, I won't park in a parking ramp in Downtown Milwaukee. Sorry. :o

We're pretty laid back outside of work (the midwest generally has a hard work ethic going on).

Pay attention to the Drinking Thread for tips, try some stuff on your own, as there are similar beers by different companies (obviously), but might taste different enough for you to like or hate.

yeah... i figure this is something that's fairly easy to get done as its really passive.

With time, you also learn which styles of beer you tend to like or not like, so you can load up a "mix your own" sixer with 4-5 brews you know you're probably going to like, plus 1-2 other styles for variety and perspective.

In my case, I'm usually grabbing the IPAs and stouts, and throwing in stuff like pilseners, brown ales, and even the occasional doppelbock/tripel (just to confirm that they still aren't my favorite).
