You think we're kidding, but when the sirens hit, the majority take it as a cue to go outside, rather than take shelter, just so they can see the storm.

Since sirens are used for a different purpose here around DC (incoming Russian ICBMs, bad crab harvest, MD-Duke riots in College Park) we Marylanders usually look outside for the weather. Plus there's always "HAL" on the National Weather Service on Marine band radio whenever I'm out in the bay.

IIRC, if there is a warning, or tornado/severe ultimate sh* spotted, they sound the sirens. Nothing much else.

If I know some big storm is on the way, I'll dial up the radar, KSTP sometimes has the timestamp on the radar (so I can know when it'll hit me to the minute), and about 2 minutes beforehand, I'll head out to the patio.

Example:

Brenthoven sees the radar. It's 5:21, it'll hit at 5:27. 5:25 rolls around, Brenthoven heads outside.

"And the sirens will hit.....(waits until 5:26).....NOW."

Sirens hit.

"Let the fun begin. Oh man, this is awesome."

Still though. This band has 7 people in it. Trying to find out if people are available for a show is like herding cats. It's like managing my softball team. :o

This band had better be the next coming of Parliament with that many people.

Morning lodge

Lady wore Black - I see you reference Gilman, Mn now and then - The mayor of Gilman sits in the office right next to mine :)

And the HR manager and many other employees here live in Foley.
They're universally mocked by everyone who doesn't :D

Morning, kiddos! Temping for the next few days (had to be in at 8am this morning, but am doing 5-9 tomorrow, 1-6 on Friday, and 1-4:30 on Saturday). Fairly quiet job as a receptionist which is nice, so I can't really complain too much (and the money is always appreciated).

Have to give my presentation on STDs tonight and it's the last class at Simmons! We're having a microbiology party (we're only eating foods produced by microbes: bread, yogurt, vinegar, cheese, etc.) and watching Food Inc. I get to enjoy a nice 4 day respite before starting at BC on Monday morning at 8am.

Bob - sorry to hear that you're still stuck in the sling. :( bummer.

Good Morning Lodge

Still raining some here so I don't want to be outside running the engine yet. I might even be able to sit at my desk today.
Awww...
But I'm sure Grandma and Grandpa Wendell will be pleased.
Probably Grandma and Grandpa Pohl, too, but I don't know them.
If grandpa Pohl is who I think it is, he was my high school assistant principal. :p
Do her at the end of your stint at the current place. Then relocate.
Possibly, we'll see how this all plays out.
"Hank from Delano, you're on WCCO, how is it out there?"

"Oh man oh man, I got like a twig down in my back yard and some leaves are blowing around my front yard. If I get disconnected it's because I'm seeking shelter in the basement!"

"Hank sets an outstanding example for the rest of us, don't mess around when the nasty weather hits your neighborhood......Shirley from Andover you're...."

:D
I hate WCCO radio.
Weather is a huge deal in MN. We love it, hate it, are infatuated with it. I really think the phrase, "It's gonna rain, because my knee hurts" originated in MN.
I can tell if it is going to rain just by being outside, I always thought it was a farmer thing.

huh (though I can actually tell when it's going to rain/storm becaue my knees actually do hurt thanks to 12 years of softball).

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

I took this the wrong way, sorry Diva.

Is there a right way to take this?

Morning Lodge.

Sorry to hear of the setback Bob. I can commiserate a bit. It sucks to wear a sling in this hot weather, I'm tired of my arm being constantly sweaty. And this is the "Kool-Sling". I wish it was all mesh.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

Good morning. Denver is supposed to have a relatively "cool" day today with temps staying in the low 80s. Long range forecast thru July 1st calls for almost no chance of rain and temps in the mid to high 80s each day. Summer has most certainly arrived. :)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

For bands that cover a lot of different types of songs, it's kinda standard. The "extras" in a song can always add some backup stuff, etc, or take a breather in the back, things like that, correct?
Right, but this is the metal band. The cover band has four people - guitar, bass, drums, vocals (who does not play guitar). That's nice and straight forward.

This band had better be the next coming of Parliament with that many people.
:D

Good morning tLodge! Unexpected day off today, which is good as Mr. Hit needs a ride to Hartford to meet his ride to Loudon. (It's race weekend in NH) I have to work Saturday instead, but since no-one will be around on Saturday, it's fine with me.

I can tell if it is going to rain just by being outside, I always thought it was a farmer thing.
I'm not a farmer but I can usually tell what the weather holds by going outside. I just can't tell how much. ie. I know it's going to snow, just can't tell if it'll be just a flurry or a foot. I think it comes from years of paying attention, which farmers have a tendency to do much more than the average person. :)

The temperature is supposed to get to 96 deg here in 202-land. I rode my bike to work and the water in the building where I lived is supposed to be off until 5 PM for a repair.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

Morning Lodge, just finished 3 miles on the treadmill. USA soccer then heading out on the boat where hopefully it'll be less than 96 degrees on the bay. My guess it'll be 94.

I was wondering why I heard air raid sirens to the west this morning. :p
