Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

So which road-trip would you take?

1/20 Anaheim @ Toronto
1/21 NY Islanders @ Buffalo
1/22 Carolina @ Pittsburgh
1/24 NY Rangers @ Washington

2/18 Boston @ Ottawa
2/19 Ottawa @ Toronto
2/20 Washington @ Buffalo
2/21 Washington @ Pittsburgh

2/23 San Jose @ Pittsburgh
2/24 Dallas @ Detroit
2/25 Ottawa @ Buffalo
2/26 Pittsburgh @ Toronto

3/10 Philadelphia @ Toronto
3/11 Edmonton @ Detroit
3/12 Montreal @ Pittsburgh
3/13 Chicago @ Washington

#4 would be my last choice - same trip as #1, but with a stop in Detroit instead of Buffalo. I'd rather visit Buffalo. Only plus of #4 is that it is in March, so less chance of nasty weather.

#2 is intriguing, as it takes you to Ottawa first, and then Toronto, but the second half is meh.

#3 would be tempting, as you'd finish up in Toronto, a place I'd love to go spend a couple of days, but the first 3/4 of the trip is meh.

#1 would be my choice, especially if you could go up a couple of days early and hang out in Toronto, then stay a couple of days in DC (I know you live nearby, but this is just my thinking). I think that would be an ideal vacation for me (though, possibly without the Pittsburgh game, and a visit to 'Ewe's parents in its place). Lots of hockey, and two great cities...and Buffalo.

OH CRAP! I BETTER TURN ON MY LOCAL NEWS SO I CAN GET UP TO THE MINUTE COVERAGE!!!!!! I need to know when to take shelter, you know.

"Hank from Delano, you're on WCCO, how is it out there?"

"Oh man oh man, I got like a twig down in my back yard and some leaves are blowing around my front yard. If I get disconnected it's because I'm seeking shelter in the basement!"

"Hank sets an outstanding example for the rest of us, don't mess around when the nasty weather hits your neighborhood......Shirley from Andover you're...."

:D

So, the AC started working randomly on my way home from band practice tonight.

But, the check engine light came on and it's banging in and out of gears. I checked all the fluids and made sure the Jiffy Lube idiots put caps back on, it all looked fine. I have no idea what those numbnuts did to my car.

On the way to practice after work, when my AC was still more of a blow dryer than anything else, I left another angry voice mail message for Mr. District Manager. Unfortunately I didn't notice the transmission issue and light until after.

Minnesotans have a weird obsession with the weather...

It's basically instinct. That's how come CNN doesn't bother to visit us. There's no news when severe weather hits. We clean up, and move on.

"Well, Martha, looks like another tornado hit. Better get the broom and call Elmer with his winch."

I wonder what it means when the workout session, which will most assuredly kick my ***, is the best part of my day. I'm already thinking about tomorrow's time in the gym... got 8 hours of computer jockeying in front of it.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

I thought tonight's 30 by 30 was pretty good. It was the story of Andres Escobar and the Colombian National Soccer Team.

I wanted to see last weeks about June 17, 1994 but missed it. Interestingly this story intersects with that one as the World Cup was at that time.

I caught a little of it, it was OJ OJ OJ.

You know, when you're just a guy in a band who simply shows up, plays bass and leaves, it's pretty cool. But when you're the guy in a band with all the contacts (12+ years playing and working in the local metal scene, I've met a few people) and therefore the one doing a lot of the booking, well that stinks.

That sounds like work, not fun. ;)

Meh. The playing is fun. The rest is just bullplop.

Aside from my AMAZING PLAYING ABILITY, one of the big things on my resume was the fact that I know a million people in the local scene, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised to be doing this.

Still though. This band has 7 people in it. Trying to find out if people are available for a show is like herding cats. It's like managing my softball team. :o

It's like managing my softball team. :o

While I never managed a team (and that is why), I can fully understand.

Hell, that's how I became a regular sub on another (and better) softball team. They'd call me up (half of their team was our team), and since I wanted to always play, no matter what, I'd show.

Yeah, it's a drag. It's my second year doing it. I'll probably do it next year, then pass it off on someone else...

Why does a band need 7 people?

Is that like a band +3 subs.
I didn't start it, I just joined. Anyway, bass, drums, keys, two guitarists (rhythm, lead), two "singers" (male and female).

For bands that cover a lot of different types of songs, it's kinda standard. The "extras" in a song can always add some backup stuff, etc, or take a breather in the back, things like that, correct?

Minnesotans have a weird obsession with the weather...

To expand on my previous post about MN/weather:

Bostonian might wanna talk about those Broons or Sawx, Sconnies have their Packers, Californians have their wacky Hollywood stories, Minnesotans have their weather.

I swear that if you are over 40, The Weather Channel is on your "favorites" list on your remote. And you'll watch it for at least an hour once you change the channel to that channel. And you change it there more than once in a sitting.

And if the weatherman doesn't predict the weather correctly...hell hath no fury like a *ed off MN in that case.

You think we're kidding, but when the sirens hit, the majority take it as a cue to go outside, rather than take shelter, just so they can see the storm.

Weather is a huge deal in MN. We love it, hate it, are infatuated with it. I really think the phrase, "It's gonna rain, because my knee hurts" originated in MN.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm not part Minnesotan. I obsessively check weather.com or wunderground.com.
