Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

I am glad I have my suit jacket on today. My office is colder than hell. :p I need to remember to bring a pair of work gloves in tomorrow. I have been using the stapler a bunch lately and I think I might be getting a blister on my wussy hands. ;)

I am also sore. I started working out 6/1. 5 AM Monday - Friday. Started lifting weights this past Sunday. F an A am I sore! I have dropped 10 pounds and I may need to wear a pair of suspenders to keep the s&ss from falling off.

Just use that stapler you're so attached to, it's more secure.

More tales of customer service (or an addendum to an earlier tale):

Some might remember about a week and a half back, when I relayed my story about my Blockbuster online membership, and how when I informed them that the return envelope was no longer usable, they told me they'd send a replacement, and gave me a free rental coupon. Well, I got the replacement mailer today, as well as the next DVD in my queue! Again, just a small thing, but utterly unexpected, as I have a "1 movie at a time" membership, so they shouldn't have even mailed the next one until they received the current one. Pretty nice of them to say, "well, you had problems returning the current one, so here's your next one early." :)

Lawn mowed, again. Just did it three days ago. All of the rain combined with this humidity is making it go nuts.

Good morning Lodge. Gym then heading out on the boat.

Before moving to Mass I first moved to Trumbull, CT for 2 years where I finished out high school. We kept our old boat in the Housatonic River and would anchor off of the West Haven breakwater. Outside of Whalers games I wasn't a huge fan of the Nutmeg State.
So far, I don't mind the Nutmeg State. It has some definite advantages over NC, like college hockey, the ocean is about 5 or 10 minutes from my house, real seafood, and that sort of thing. Would I rather be in NH? Yes, but this is close enough. :)

I might have wrecked the remote for my garage door opener. Went for a bike ride last night. Had no pockets in the shorts, so I left the opener out so that I could get back in. Came back home, put the bike away, shut the garage door, no problem. It rained like hell last night. I go to leave this morning, the remote is not on the truck's visor like it always is. I figure I left it in the house last night after I put the bike away. Ummmmm, uh-uh. It's still sitting outside on the patio. It doesn't work. Lovely.

You have to let it dry out before trying to use it. I've learned the hard way from prior mishaps.

I hope that's all it is. It's my own ****ed fault.

I've also got a mouse problem on this machine. I can point okay, but when I go to click, it either doesn't respond, or moves entirely too fast and will click 2-3 times. Sometimes it's fine, others, not so much. It seems to happen mostly after I get off the internet. I've got a suspicion, but I hope it's not what I think it is....

Yeah, let it sit for a long while. It may come back to life. I have dropped cell phones into lakes and managed to bring them back from the dead by taking it apart into as many pieces as easily possible and letting it sit on a towel on the table overnight.

Have you tried a different mouse?

You have three options - bad mouse, out-of-date mouse driver, or the clap.

I kick *** at my job. The 5.5% raise isn't nearly enough.

Put it in a jar of rice. The garage door remote, not the mouse.

Good afternoon, Lodge. The stitches come off today, which means I can stop using this idiotic sling.

Yay!

I second bb_dl's suggestion, Hammer. Put the opener in a container with rice and seal. Leave overnight. The rice draws out the moisture (my mom uses rice when she gets her hearing aids wet, it's surprisingly effective).

Good afternoon, Lodge. Working on my lab report for Micro class. We were given an "unknown" bacterial culture and had to figure out which of 15 possible bacteria it could be. Mine was Proteus which is responsibly for urinary infections and when it grows on TS agar (chicken soup essentially), it reeks! It was a fun lab though.

Had a job interview this morning, but it didn't go particularly favorably. Since class ends on Wednesday night, I'll be spending time on Thursday and Friday looking for more jobs to apply to.

*cough* http://www.guinness.com/ *cough*;)

The tour was pretty interesting, but the pint at the top of the building overlooking all of Dublin was the best part. Nothing like a fresh pint of Guinness. Kilkenny is also a nice beer.

Reading "A Pint of Plain" about the demise of the traditional Irish pub and it talks about how amazing St. James Gate is and especially the view from the top. (He denigrates how much Guinness has marketed itself as The Irish thing to do/see/drink in Ireland.)

Thank you Minneapolis Star Tribune for this gem:

• Castoreum is bizarre, said Reineccius. It's a secretion from the anal glands of beavers, used mostly in perfumes and sometimes to enhance raspberry flavor in candies and fillings. How did it make the jump from beavers to perfume?

"Probably by accident," he said. "More than likely somebody was hunting and, guess what, they used all of the animal. They said, 'That's an interesting aroma, and how can we use that?'"
