Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #111: Filling in for the night shift

Good morning tLodge! More cleaning/packing today then work.

I haven't "did" yet. I still do. Wrangler 4.0 Sport, 1999, Soft top, auto (shuddup), steel door (not the half door), ROUND F*ING HEADLIGHTS GODDAMMIT. Love it. Goes by "Rosie" (think AC/DC) or "The Fifth."

It really does rule.

Yeah, I heard that about the Rubicon, too. But Jeeps are not cheap, due to the loyalty factor.
Oooh, I am jealous. Really, I've wanted a soft top Wrangler since I was in high school. But I couldn't get around the gas mileage issues. (until now, hmmm...)

I drive a Honda Civic...I spend more time then most digging my car out.

But, I only pay $25 or so for a tank of gas...so, I got that going for me, which is nice...:)
I'm with you. But, put a good set of snow tires on a Civic and you'll get through most weather. The only problems I ever had with the Civic in the snow were due to the crappy Goodyears that I let my ex-bf put on the car. They are almost down to the wear bars just in time to move back to snowy weather! :) (yes this is good, I can now replace them without feeling guilty for replacing them before they wore out)

Mornin' Loj! My boy turns 6 months old today. Man, time flies. His first tooth broke the surface yesterday. Fun stuff.
Wow, congrats on the baby, I didn't know you were a dad! :o

My buddy had a soft top Wrangler and the noise was horrid in the cab. I'd prefer a removable hard top. The soft top went woogity woogity woogity down the road at 60 mph and we had to yell at each other to have a conversation.

I love my Goodyear Wranglers on my Ranger. I might get close to 70,000 miles out of them, 60-65 for sure. Never had a problem, especially with 4WD.

I didn't look at wranglers when buying tires for the Civic. :o (if I knew then, what I know now, I might have)

I know a big part of the problem with the tires is they are all season radials, so they supposedly are good for all sorts of weather, when in reality, they are barely ok in rain and suck in the snow. Which as long as I stayed in NC, wasn't a problem. But, I drove home for my wedding two winters ago. It snowed, heavily, the day of the wedding and I nearly didn't make it to the ceremony.

Plus, as stupid and illogical as this sounds, Goodyear and Hondas don't get along well. Something with the front end geometry in the Honda doesn't work well with Goodyear's compounds. The tires get worn out quicker than they should.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #111: Filling in for the night shift

That's because I think Wranglers are truck tires. :p

I'm going to need new tires for my truck this fall. Not looking forward to buying tires for the 20" rims.
OTOH - I am looking forward to buying something with more off road capabilities than the tires that came with it. I'll compromise a smoother ride for aggressive tread any day.

What's on it now?

My first Ranger came with Firestones, right before the **** hit the fan with those. My Firestones were junk. I replaced them with Dunlops. That was like putting out a fire with gasoline. They were worse yet. I put a set of Wranglers on my old Ranger a couple years before I got rid of it. This Ranger had Wranglers on it when I bought it, and I put a new set on a couple years ago.

Goodyear Eagle GT II's. Overall a great tire, especially on wet roads. Unfortunately they don't have enough grip for frozen lakes and deep snow in general. I'm looking at Wranglers for sure, since I've had several sets on various trucks through the years. I'm also thinking of ten ply. I had Wrangler ten plies on my 2005 2500HD, and those were the finest tires for the really rocky spots I encounter when hunting and fishing in MN and NoDak. Two years ago in NoDak, of the four trucks we drove out mine was the only truck not to experience a flat, and some had multiple flats. I was the only one with ten plies :D

Good afternoon Lodge.

Gonzo - Have you been able to catch any three eyed fish on those city slicker lakes you fish? ;)

FWIW I will be heading up north next Wednesday and returning home on Monday. Camping and all the things that go with it are on my agenda.

Hey there! Any updates on the little gs these days?

Little g is doing great and thanks for asking. He has a great attitude and the smile to prove it. He will be four on Thursday. Where does the time go? (Personally/selfishly his birthday comes with a mixed bag of emotions for me. On one hand it was one of the greatest days of my life but on the other it was one of the worst days of my life. Thinking about that day brings both smiles and tears. Hard to explain.)

I am planning to update his caring bridge site in the next couple days.

Regarding little gII.........he is a pyscho. :)

:o Yeah, that would explain it. In that case I still won't be putting Goodyears on any vehicle I own any time soon.

Gmann - good to hear little g is doing well. I can't believe he is going to be four this year! Where does the time go?!?

So, how are you playing for CC membership fees and still taking weekdays off for golf all the dam time? You rob banks in the evening or something?
