Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #111: Filling in for the night shift

Oh, and I need to add my nieces' dance school teacher to Sloe Gin's hammerpunch list. My younger niece is on a dance competition team. One of their performances is called Arlington National.
They did a dance routine based on a hot dog brand?

Wait, that's Hebrew National. Nevermind.

(And I would bet good money that the dance teacher is a failed professional dancer...or a loony with no sense of proportion.

Just be glad they weren't doing this)

That kind of woman drove my sister out of the film industry... not so much failed in that woman's case but never beyond mediocrity.

Anyone know anything about the newer model Jeep Wranglers? I'm thinking about picking one up in a few months - in my price range, looks like fun to drive, and capable of getting me to work in 12 inches of snow.
I can't say much of anything about the vehicles, but I will tell you this - it's not a real Jeep without the 36x12.5R16 tires.

I think so. So wrong.
I'm going to say at least two of them end up on the pole in 10 years...

A friend of mine posted that to her facebook absolutely outraged about it. She has a daughter that age in dance. Who the hell thought that was a good idea?

More in depth than my FB comments:

I have never EVER gotten stuck in winter in the last 10 years with my Jeep (normal tires, although I do have a 4.0 6cyl engine).

I've even made it a point to go out INTO a snowstorm, just to have some fun.

And I'm not kidding about their factory heater. Half the time I have my windows down in winter, no probs.

And with the soft top recommendation, it's easier to make it a "convertabile" than a hard top.

I've heard not to get the Rubicon unless you're hardcore into off-roading, because it makes it suck as a daily driver. (Plus it bumps it out of my price range I'm sure.)

I drove a Ford Bronco II through college, and despite its quirks (gutless engine, short wheelbase, covert attempts to kill me) I sincerely miss it. It drove through absolutely anything you asked of it. People at Tech would dig their cars out of 2 feet of snow - I'd just shovel off the windshield, drop it into 4WD and steamroll out.

What kind of Jeep did you have?

I haven't "did" yet. I still do. Wrangler 4.0 Sport, 1999, Soft top, auto (shuddup), steel door (not the half door), ROUND F*ING HEADLIGHTS GODDAMMIT. Love it. Goes by "Rosie" (think AC/DC) or "The Fifth."

It really does rule.

Yeah, I heard that about the Rubicon, too. But Jeeps are not cheap, due to the loyalty factor.

I had an '89 RWD (sport package - no 4WD) when I got to college. Never once got stuck. It only died because I decided to jump it just that one time. Not smart.

I have 4WD on the fly. It is awesome.

I drive a Honda Civic...I spend more time then most digging my car out.

But, I only pay $25 or so for a tank of gas...so, I got that going for me, which is nice...:)

True. The MPG on a Jeep sucks. Granted, my Jeep is below the avg, but still. And taking the top down greatly hurts that MPG also (about 20-25%, by my math). $25 gets me about 2/3 tank at best.

Although I do only have a 7 mile commute (one way) to work, so that's nice.

I went to the beach today, and got sunburnt. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot UP!

Also, people were getting forklift trained at work. I thought of you, Brenthoven.

Because I rock at the forklift. When I drive, it's art.
