Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #111: Filling in for the night shift

I just got a call back from the girl who's appartment I checked out yesterday. Apparently the room is mine if I want it. I have to go look at another one tomorrow, then decide which one I want. At $350/month, with everything included, why didn't I think of this sooner? (probably because its only that cheap during the summer when there is an excess of empty rooms around campus)
350$/month  *swoon* WHAT am I doing in this city?!
'ewe - did I give you the banquet poster from last season? I have the one from this season for you (oh - mookie, I have one for you as well - sorry I forgot to bring it to you that Friday) but I also have two from the 09 banquet and couldn't remember if those were mine or if one of those was yours.
You did, but my framer decided to retire (the guy at Packard's corner - he was nice enough to do my championship poster and tickets though). I'm anxiously awaiting his apprentice's opening of her shop. (He decided to open a BBQ place in Newton). Thanks for grabbing this year's poster! :)

And quit yer beetchin about what you wear to work. It's business professional attire here. No casual days. I'm in a bunny suit. And heels.

Fixed for the rest of us.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #111: Filling in for the night shift

I usually just get Dockers too, the iron free ones are the way to go. I have a couple pairs now that I have to iron every damm time I wash them and it is a huge pain in the ***. I'd just much rather wear a good pair of Levis or Wranglers than any kind of khakis. Its not that they're uncomfortable, but I always worry about getting them dirty and alot of times I'm out in a test cell or a shop area where if I just bump something I'll have a black streak on my khakis.
Stain resistant dockers. I've gotten brake dust and other crap at the track on them and they still came clean.

Just got back from seeing the shoulder doc. I have a small tear in my rotator cuff tendon. It ain't going to heal itself. Surgery scheduled for June 1. :(

4-6 weeks in a sling, 4-6 months rehab. :(

Ouch. :( Good luck!

Shirtless - good luck with the surgery and the healing!

I work from home. My dress code is whatever I feel like wearing that day. Today sweats and a long sleeve shirt.

I guess my Dockers and Nike Golf shirt isn't too bad afterall. :o

Well, its not usually that cheap, so don't get too jealous. It is nice for the summer to find somewhere cheap, while I'm just between places.

Though, $350/room/month isn't unheard of year-round (and not even necessarily in the slums!)

Afternoon, Lodge. Short day of work today, but tomorrow will suck - rain and 40s. :o At least I'm going to drink some beer tonight. :D

I won't even share what my last few apartments have cost... :o Suffice it to say, it makes the Midwest very attractive after reading your (and dl's) posts.

For those of you keeping score from home whenever we have casual day at the office I usually show up wearing the stars and stripes speedo, an A-team cut off t shirt and cowboy boots. :p

a) isn't that just his share of the apartment and not the whole place?
b) you really need to ask that question??? :) :p

OK good. I can toss out the ones I have. Well, maybe I'll keep one, as a memory of that season. I don't keep any of the others. We still need to meet up so I can hand over this year's.

a) Even if that's his share of the apartment, when I shared an apartment with 4 people, we paid more than that (significantly significantly more) and the entire building was condemned the next year (and we were robbed when we lived there).
b) I know, I know. :p

Yup - You're asking about the ones with Gilroy, Lawrence, Smo, etc, right? I do have several of those from you. :) We do need to meet up - My schedule opens up significantly in early June (finals/classes are over).

That would be my share.

For reference, the house we rented in Houghton, was 4 people, $250/person, an entire house and yard and 2 car garage. Granted, it was in Houghton. :p

you are tossing out what?!?!?!? whoa whoa there!!!!:( i would like a list please, 'fore you start a-cleanin'!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #111: Filling in for the night shift

I desperately need to go buy new khakis for work. I have about 4 pairs that are getting very ragged. I hate buying khakis, because I hate wearing them, but these are the joys of working in an office. At least I don't have to wear a suit.
I got the same deal at clinic, school. they've either got to be khakis or scrubs. I would much rather be in jeans, but thats the offical policy. At least I can wear Tshirts, as long as they're plain, or have AAIMT on them.
I'll trade you!
At least when pushing little kids you can stand. Pulling weeds? Not so much ;)
Yeah, You would think pushing kids would be easier, wouldn't you Muppet. ;)

Fixed for the rest of us.

Must spread.....

Just the senior caricature poster. You were at that banquet so I know you have one. I think I have two or three. I only need one, for posterity.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #111: Filling in for the night shift

In general I'm responsible... I've always been able to pay my bills but there's been the occasional accidental hiccup when e-mails don't get sent (as happened with a phone bill) or the mail just doesn't plain arrive (as has happened with my electric bill).
Schedule your bill payments either through your bank or your service provider, either through autopay or one-time payments, and you'll not have this problem. Since you're working in an office, you have some app like MS Outlook or Lotus Notes, and therefore a calendar and reminder system of some sort. Use it for your bill tracking.

I'm working on it... but its never that simple. Fact of the matter is I'm behind and I need to use resources to work back to parity (compared everybody else in this area). I have two frames of mind on this... 1) do what I need to do, get what I "need" to get, and after that phase is over save passively as knowing me that will happen... 2) save to get to that next rung (housing) and then be comfortable to the point where I can go out and start doing other things.

The oddest thing is I feel like there's a pressure on me to travel. I don't particularly care for it, but it seems like I'm one of the few that hasn't gone overseas around here... or hasn't been 10 different cities. I feel like there's this pressure to be interesting or to have a hook... I think what really needs to happen is I need to find activities for myself and not worry that I haven't gone anywhere.
Stop worrying about where you think you should be in life at this point. You don't seem to get that. There is no schedule by which you're supposed to live your life. You're a few months removed from grad school. Of course others have been doing whatever it is they do while you've been studying and working. The idea for someone taking that route is usually for long-term payoff and not immediate gratification.

And screw travel. If you don't like it, then don't do it.

I'm just going to quote this because this is exactly what I would say if I wasn't a lazybutt.

But I think at this point in your life, you shouldn't be a lazybutt. You fail. :p

I agree with this.

I would also add that you need to make a realistic long-term plan for your financial goals and how you plan to get there. There are plenty of tools available to you to do this. At this point, you use two old John Wooden sayings: 1) A failure to plan is a plan to fail, and 2) Plan your work and work your plan.
