I think it's an industry standard. And yes - these guys make some really good money, but it's never less than 80 degrees with a 100% humidity inside, obviously a lot warmer in the summer. Depending on your level in the team, you may be spending all twelve hours working next to a thing called a hydrapulper that is a big swirling mass of slop that separates all the fibers from the stock (wood pulp or in our case, old boxes and papers). It's filthy, hot as hell and stinks like crazy.
One little perk is no one has a shredder at home. You can bring all your shred documents to work in a paper bag and throw it into the pulper. In about two hours your bank statements are now part of a new reel of paper.
