They had to file some paperwork or no go. The community service thing isn't a problem because his church stuff counts. (Thank goodness)

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!! 'thursty' thursday has arrived

Proud parent warning----Lil had his first track meet yesterday (busy day yesterday). He doubled the mile and the half, did a relay and long jumped. I was exhausted watching him. Hadn't seen him long jump before. Was shocked. The kid flies?! Can run too- dropped >20 seconds off both his long races. Now he just needs to hit puberty so he catches up with the six footers. (some 8th grader ran a 55 sec 400. That is ridiculous. )

Yay, Lil! :D What were his times?
And, uhm, 8th graders running :55 400's?? Someone check his birth certificate!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #110: Offseason Is Here, So Deal With It.

Morning Lodge

Congrats, LWB!

* 8am. My old job was an 8-5 (hour lunch) and while the end time was nice, the start time blew goats. I'd love the 9-5:30 shift that a couple have at my current job, but I can't really complain too much about my 10-6:30, especially since I'm more of a night owl.

If I get a day position, my hours would be 7a-3:30p. While that leaves evenings completely open, it also means waking up at 5:30 everyday.

I LEAVE for work at 5:30 AM. No sympathy from my new colleagues though. Mill schedules are teh suck. If you're a shift worker on the paper machine, you work the following:

(All times are 7 to 7 - 12 hour shifts 7 days a week.)
four nights
three off
three days
one off
three nights
three off
four days (known as hell week since all the Admin people and the GM are around)
seven off
repeat from the top
This includes every holiday on the calendar.

There are typically four 14 hour planned shutdowns annually. Shutdowns are madness as there's unlimited OT for anyone that wants it (I'm salary) and the parking lot triples in size with all the outside contractors in house for machine repairs and maintenance.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #110: Offseason Is Here, So Deal With It.

You guys are silly. Working early is where it's at! I love working 6:30-3 each day.

Especially in the summer when other suckers are stuck at work for another 2 or 3 hours while I am sipping beer on the patio for happy hour. :D

Thats pretty much the same as Verso Paper here also. Guys make good money but its a hard life and depending where you are in the mill you get exposed to some nasty stuff

Good Morning, Lodge!

It feels weird to say that I get to go to work today. :o

Agreed. Now that I'm used to it, I really like getting off at 3:00 PM

I think it's an industry standard. And yes - these guys make some really good money, but it's never less than 80 degrees with a 100% humidity inside, obviously a lot warmer in the summer. Depending on your level in the team, you may be spending all twelve hours working next to a thing called a hydrapulper that is a big swirling mass of slop that separates all the fibers from the stock (wood pulp or in our case, old boxes and papers). It's filthy, hot as hell and stinks like crazy.
One little perk is no one has a shredder at home. You can bring all your shred documents to work in a paper bag and throw it into the pulper. In about two hours your bank statements are now part of a new reel of paper. :)

The 55 kid hasn't hit puberty yet. The kid will be a stud! They had some really scary good kids.

Lil ran a 2:47 800 (first time he has ever run it outside of practice)
5:56 mile. Not a stud but his last mile was in the 6:teens.

That sounds like what my wife's brothers do at a Charmin plant in PA. Although I don't think they actually make the paper there, I think they make it into TP.

I call BS. I know it FEELS like 100% RH, but no where does it ever really approach those conditions. I bet it is more like a 76 degree wet bulb, or about 82% RH.;) (effin engineer)

Congrats again to lil on the meet!

My office is right next to the Engineering Suite (Four full time engineers. Three mechanical and one electrical) I'll have them validate my earlier statement. ;)

/effing engineers

Whats up Folks

Me. Barely.
Good morning, I missed a day here. :o

Hundreds of cop cars & fire vehicles congregating near The Cathedral Of Saint Paul this morning, the funeral for Maplewood Police Sgt. Bergeron is later this morning, couldn't help but get a little choked up as I drove past. :(

I watched the video on the Strib's site of the interview with the former fireman that was the first on scene. Teared up a bit, I did. So sad...

Scared me there for a moment. I love that Cathedral and I thought you were going to say there was a fire!
:( to the funeral though.

Checking in from home. Skipped my morning psych class to stay home and do lots of homework for next week. I don't need the class (the lecture slides are all put up online) and I have a lot of work due next week.

So instead of doing homework you are on the internets? ;) :p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #110: Offseason Is Here, So Deal With It.

Good morning tLodge! I'm actually out of bed before 11 today!

I am about 7-8 miles from work, I usually get up at 8 (start at 10). Do the 3 S's, check my email/fantasy sports/etc, and get to work about 40 minutes beforehand to read the paper, etc. Kinda helps me warm up for the day.
When I was working outside the house, I basically got up 30 minutes, max, before I'd have to leave. Shower, dress, do something with my hair and I was out of there. I can eat and surf at my desk and we had free coffee (Flavia machine, which wasn't too bad) at work, so why spend the money at home? Plus, the last shift I had there was 6a to 2p. It was great to have the time in the afternoon, but I still had to be up at 4:30 to get there on time.

While that's a nice side benefit, I'm thinkin' it's not worth the crappy hours, smell and heat. I'll stick to my shredder.
