evening lodge. In Indianapolis. I'm on my 3rd night here. It's not too bad, except it's humid beyond belief. There's a Dennys near here and there's a bar with ridiculous specials just down the street. In addition to all that, there's 11 people total from Lynx, so it's like a mini-reunion. It's wonderful.

I'm gonna survive.

alright... issues with the bookcase question... 4 screws attach the base to the body... 3 of them will go in all the way... the 4th won't... the problem appears to some mis-alignment issue in the hole... the screw attaches two pieces of wood/particle board. If I had another person here I think it might go but it still might be a toss-up... i can get the screw in the hole on the second piece but there are obviously issues.

Any thoughts on how confident I should be in getting this thing up with 3 screws. It appears to be rather stable... i just don't want the whole thing to fall and go boom.
Try screwing the screws diagonal from each other first. Also, don't screw them all the way in right away, just a little bit at a time. The alignment issue should fix itself...

My bookshelf fell off the wall last night. I'm glad I wasn't home to hear what a titanic bomb that sounded like when it fell.

that's always good for the heart... one of my fellow grad students once threw a bookbag at the door (he is a nice guy but he isn't exactly leading a stable life... not his fault... the people in his family life suck) and it sounded like a bookcase fell down.

I'm going to take advice from a friend of mine (who isn't in this area for those following whatever I said yesterday) who suggested I drive a nail near the hole... just have to get the nail. Gotta love Arlington... no hardware stores for a mile around.

I'll hit the Home Despot next week after I get to the museum of the American Indian or whatever its called.

Whats the nail going to do? It certainly won't hold anything when going into particle board? If you're using it to align the hole it might help. Its only one hole that won't line up? Does the screw go thru one piece and then into a small hole where the screw actually grabs wood? or does it go into a nut or metal piece?

wood to wood... right now its standing and stable so it may not be much of an issue. I'm not sure there is a real solution to this... especially as I don't know if my work has caused issues in regards to the hole. Whatever I tried it just didn't want to go... it was the last screw at one point... so I unscrewed the whole end and had that go first... and it still wouldn't go.

I don't particularly care as long as it stays stable. Its free standing and was pretty stable when I moved it around but not perfect.

A nice Sunday is drawing near dinnertime for The Shots. The executive chef has announced we'll be having roasted veggie enchiliadas as our entree. Fresh strawberries and chocolate lace almond cookies for dessert. Bon appetit!;)

Pizza Hut screwed up my order.

I had originally ordered a 10-piece Cheesestick, canceled the order and ordered 5 instead. When the delivery showed up they had included the 5 I had ordered and the 10 I had canceled...and only charged me for 5.

Why can't they make mistakes like this at the bank? :D

Drive the screw in. don't worry about the hole lining up

if it would go it'd be done... the screw is flat on the end... what might be a viable alternative is using a screw with a point instead.

How far off is the hole? can you see part of it?

i'm not going to mess with it right now... its about half to a quarter width of the screw apart from where its lining up with the first piece of wood... and i can't stare it down to see how well its aligning.

I think the lesson here is that Ikea sucks donkey balls.

yeah... well... I'm the only one here who will help me figure out what to do with this space. I'm more annoyed by my sister who recommended it in the first place... who took a crack at me by saying "you get what you pay for". I don't know, its don't now.

Thanks wally... that worked... hammered it in some way and then I was able to screw in the rest.

they do....

i went a while ago and w/d 1,200. i asked for 8 100's, 6 50's, 5 20's. the girl messed up and counted out 1,500 for me and stacked it. when she was done i picked it up and counted back out for her her mistake. she turned white. took it back and then counted it out again (correctly). she couldn't believe i didn't run out with the money.

i never noticed her behind the counter after that.

Most of my furniture came from outlet/overstock stores. For example, I got a decent couch, loveseat, a couple lamps, a coffee table and two end tables (although the tables were junk) from Slumberland outlet for a grand. The coffee table I have now (about 3' x 3', and 2' high) for $50 from some random outlet store. There are deals out there, just gotta find them.

Try garage sales/church sales/etc.

most of my furniture came from girl's sister getting new stuff (and me getting her old stuff ;) )

furniture is a waste of money. i bought the tv, i don't really care what i lay on, as long as it's somewhat comfortable. if it isn't i can drop a blanket/pillow/comforter down to cushion my girth.:p
