Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #109: It's the Offseason, now what?

Morning lodge

Effing state trooper got on the freeway right in front of me. I was hoping someone wouldn't notice and pass him, thus taking him off the road. Nope. 70 MPH all the way to my exit. It's not like I'm trying to break the speed of sound, but I drive a nice straight stretch on my way to work and 75-80 MPH is "the flow". At least I had the balls to stay with him. At one point I looked in my rear view and all the other vehicles were about a half mile behind us, all jammed up.
Yep. At least stay a respectable distance from their rear bumper. Nothing close, but eh, you at least know where the cop is and you're not going to get pulled over there unless you pull your .38 out and start busting caps off. ;) Letting the cop get too far ahead of you only means that he'll have a chance to pull off and get set for you when you blow by him.
Working for other people sucks anyway. If I didn't have to eat I would have given up on the whole being and doing what other people expect thing a long time ago.
Same here. :D
Hi Lodge.

Work has been dull and unmotivating for awhile so I'm once again playing around looking at grad schools. I think I found the program for me but dislike the need for 3 letters of recommendation in the application. One needs to come from a professor or someone familiar with my undergrad work. Ummm.....it's been 5 years. I think I can only remember one professor's name, and I don't know if she'd remember mine. I went to a huge school, understood stuff and didn't do things like go to office hours or ask questions in class. How am I supposed to get a letter of recommendation from a prof?
I do know a guy who teaches in the History department at Michigan, used to keep his horses here at my place.
To be honest, I would just try politely asking. At a larger school like Michigan, they might understand and simply write you a general one, particularly since it has been five years. I was able to get one of my academic letters of rec from a prof who remembered me even though I had only taken one of her classes, and it was back when I was a sophomore.

 :D

Probably your best bet here Mandy. At least try to figure out one that you had a perticular class with, and talk to that one about it. Fake it a little, All the school is going to see is the big block M on the letter anyways, and skim the reading of it.

Get a copy of your transcript (should be able to get it on Wolverine Access). You can figure out which classes you took, and compare it to one of the big class schedules to see who your professors were (Winter 2005, Fall 2004, Winter 2004, I can't find digital records earlier than those).

When you pick a prof, give them a copy of your transcript, remind them what class you took from them, and explain that you've been working the past 5 years (might want to include some brief details about that, just to make it abundantly clear that you have your sh*t together) and are interested in going back to school. Even if they don't remember you personally, they can still write generic stuff about how you must have been a good student to have done as well as you did in their class, and the other classes that show up on your transcript.

How about ecbrevik? :)

Evening everybody, just accepted my 3rd straight MVP award for Rifle, and this year's trophy/plaque is much nicer than the past two years. I may snap a picture and put it up on the show yourselves thread soon, we'll see.

About to go be a student until who knows when. I end the semester in 2 days, and have 4 tests and a project due by thursday. Thursday night will entail drinking if I'm not in a zombified state.

Good Morning boys!

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!! wobbly wednesday is here.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #109: It's the Offseason, now what?

Would it be crazy to drive 8 hours to Detroit Sunday, see game 6, then drive 8 hours home?

No, ok. Yes, I'm considering this adventure.
Do it! Take a friend. Make the most of the road trip.

I've never regretted a hockey road trip. Even last year driving to Bridgeport to see my team lose to Air Force. Still a fun trip.

Thanks for the advice. I actually do remember one assistant professor (who may be a full prof now) that may remember me. I took her class, graded for one of her classes and her young son tried playing my trumpet at a basketball game once.

still hobbling around from playing ultimate frisbee yesterday... that had to be the longest walk to the subway ever... moving at like half-speed. I need like a nap and a power dose of something. I'm not injured... just sore as all heck.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #109: It's the Offseason, now what?

Vegetarian meal for tomorrow complete! And I made a meal for myself, which I will be heating up shortly. (lasagna noodles rolled around herbed ricotta, spinach, and great northern beans with homemade tomato sauce).

Thanks! The preview was quite delicious (and surprisingly filling!). I made 2 rolls for myself and I had trouble finishing one (info on the recipe is in the Cooks thread).
Sounds yummy; looks like something I'll have to try making myself.

You're a hockey fan, so the correct answer is, "No!" :D
What F2B&G said.

Morning, Lodge. Whoever invented half-caff coffee should be shot.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #109: It's the Offseason, now what?

Still having trouble trying to get registered for classes this summer. Apparently I'm supposed to just wait until the first day of school and just see if there are any openings. I am. worried that all the classes and the schools will be full. :(

And there's a sub professor this morning who is reading word for word off the PowerPoint slides. She's teaching another section of this class, she should know the information.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #109: It's the Offseason, now what?

My boss is still in China. I've accomplished more work today than I do on an average day. It's pretty out. I think I may be leaving early to go watch Michigan softball. The big question is, do I take my dog and see how she does (knowing we may have to leave), or do I remain patient and wait until she's better trained to take her to a game? She does great with people, even handled my part over the weekend. My concern is if there are other dogs there, she may lunge for them and/or bark. She's not aggressive...just excitable.
