Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #109: It's the Offseason, now what?

Hi Lodge.

Work has been dull and unmotivating for awhile so I'm once again playing around looking at grad schools. I think I found the program for me but dislike the need for 3 letters of recommendation in the application. One needs to come from a professor or someone familiar with my undergrad work. Ummm.....it's been 5 years. I think I can only remember one professor's name, and I don't know if she'd remember mine. I went to a huge school, understood stuff and didn't do things like go to office hours or ask questions in class. How am I supposed to get a letter of recommendation from a prof?

How about ecbrevik? :)

I usually stick to just the twinkies now, though the candy bars came out a year before twinkies, so the first year of twinkies I had a snickers and twinkie. That was too much sweet deep fried stuff. Now I just end up getting a twinkie and focus the rest of my time on cheese curds and other savory deep fried stuff, oh, and the big fat bacon.

I found the Twinkies pretty unexciting, actually - like deepfried cake surrounding more cake. With the candy bars, there was something different once I got past the breading.

And I think we were talking Winter Carnival, bb_dl. ;) Otherwise I agree entirely for the Great Minnesota Get-Together.

I was, yes. And I've had all of the selections, and I found the snickers to have the best flavors, but the Twinkie was easier to eat. Both made me moderately nauseous, however, and should I make the trip up again I will save myself for breakfast.
I still have to witness this MN State Fair Deep Fried experience-on-a-stick.

West Texas Wolverine is a professor too, and he's familiar with drinking and watching hockey games at Yost - that's about as much as grad school needs to know about wT's college experience. ;)

Most people prefer trying to "save themselves for marriage". ;)

As for the nausea, remind me to suggest that they also deep-fry fun size bars and sell them for 50 cents or so. Deliciousness for those trying to watch their weight, for people with upsettable stomachs, or for cheap bastiges.

Brilliant!
And I knew a comment was coming as soon as I typed "save myself", but I submitted it anyway.

Is the semester over yet? If I have to talk to one more person today....Got a call yesterday from a company asking me to come down to Wausau for an interview next thursday yesterday so this morning/last night has been figuring out how to balance that exams, moving out, and graduation all into 3 days. Then had my final senior design presentation today, rocked that. Im just ready to be done with this school 5hit whether I have a job or not.

Hopefully after playoff floor hockey and a growler of KBC 36 Schilling(coming out in cans soon) Ill be in a much better mood

Vegetarian meal for tomorrow complete! And I made a meal for myself, which I will be heating up shortly. (lasagna noodles rolled around herbed ricotta, spinach, and great northern beans with homemade tomato sauce).

Evening everybody, just accepted my 3rd straight MVP award for Rifle, and this year's trophy/plaque is much nicer than the past two years. I may snap a picture and put it up on the show yourselves thread soon, we'll see.

About to go be a student until who knows when. I end the semester in 2 days, and have 4 tests and a project due by thursday. Thursday night will entail drinking if I'm not in a zombified state.

Good luck with your job 'audition' tomorrow!

Thanks! The preview was quite delicious (and surprisingly filling!). I made 2 rolls for myself and I had trouble finishing one (info on the recipe is in the Cooks thread).

To be honest, I would just try politely asking. At a larger school like Michigan, they might understand and simply write you a general one, particularly since it has been five years. I was able to get one of my academic letters of rec from a prof who remembered me even though I had only taken one of her classes, and it was back when I was a sophomore.

Would it be crazy to drive 8 hours to Detroit Sunday, see game 6, then drive 8 hours home?

No, ok. Yes, I'm considering this adventure.
