Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #109: It's the Offseason, now what?

Indeed.

I have grad school applications coming out my ears! There is a single application that goes out to all the schools that you want to apply to, but it is incredibly tedious and there are a number of schools with supplements. *sigh*

Thanks for the horrible memories! I hated it when my husband was applying to grad schools. I dealt with it for 2 years and I get to deal with it in the fall again when he applies to doctoral school.

Good afternoon Lodge! Another beautiful day outside.

Just realized that I forgot to eat today, and I've been up since 6:30am... :o

I hate it when that happens.

Went out to lunch with a group from work today. Our group was split up when a coworker and I moved to a new location, so we all try to get lunch once a month so we can catch up. Luckily one of our managers was visiting from Indiana, so he picked up the lunch tab. Yay! Free Lunch! :)

G'Day Loj! Heading home for the day, my little buddy has his 1st ever ear infection. :( You wouldn't know it though, he's a happy baby. Toodles!

I didn't get one of those =[. At least I only had to apply to 6 schools. I think if I were in a more competitive research area, I might have needed to do 10+...

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #109: It's the Offseason, now what?

I just got another job decline. :( Am I shocked? Not really. I am so used to it, it is at the point that I just do not care. At least they took the time to acknowledge my existence.

wish I had better advice for you other then to get used to it and keep your head up. It's an uber tough market out there, and people that actually have employment don't realize how good they got it.

Hang in there.

Uh-oh, you got hitched to one of those "professional student" types, huh? ;) :D

EDIT: And we're in the same boat on the job thing. I just let the rejection emails bounce off me at this point.

He has worked in the private sector. He hated it because they expect results. ;)

Thank you and Sloe Gin too. I have been unemployed for over 9 months now. It is just one big rollercoaster. Right now I am focused on selling my jewelry and getting prepared for a craft sale this weekend so I can at least supplement some income.

Working for other people sucks anyway. If I didn't have to eat I would have given up on the whole being and doing what other people expect thing a long time ago.

Fell asleep this afternoon and woke up around 8. Walking still wears me out. I'm sleeping 12-14 hours a day, and I'm still tired.

Oh, and Mom is about to have her ankle healed, so she had to break her wrist instead. :p Calamity Jane has nothing on her.
Yikes. Hope your mom gets better soon!

I want to know what is going on with nursing homes lately. My husband's grandma had a stroke over a week ago and has now been placed into a nursing home. She fell out of the bed in the middle of the night and broke her wrist and the home did not call a family member until 12 hours later. What the hell is wrong with these workers?!

To Priceless, thebrain, walrus, St. Clown, and to anyone else that is going thru a similar situation... I know what you are going through and I give you my best wishes.

Have a good evening/night Lodge.
Thanks. My mom's nursing home doesn't have any hot water right now, so I was asked to do a load of laundry.

Morning Lodge.

Sheesh, rash of mom issues for the Lodge. Hope everyone's get better, or adjusted to their situation soon. :(
I hope so too...

I didn't get much sleep last night, so today has been a bit of a struggle thus far. I'm persevering and trying to make it through the day. Over and out. :)
I hear you. And I'm trying to make it through without having yet another cup of coffee or a shot of Red Bull...

Yeah; you just learn to accept it and move on...

Afternoon, Lodge. Got groceries today, took my cat to the vet, made lunch and coffee, and I need a nap...

elance.com (or similar sites) might be good for you - online freelance agencies.

It's the one saving grace to applying to PA programs - they use the CASPA system. The application is a bazillion pages and really tedious (you have to enter your entire transcript, course by course, for every semester you've gone to school -- and then submit your actual transcripts), but at least you only need to do it once. (I haven't looked at the supplementals yet - my applications aren't due until September at the earliest.)

Home and enjoying a mug full of carrots and some of the bread I made last week - surprisingly good, not too dense.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #109: It's the Offseason, now what?

Hi Lodge.

Work has been dull and unmotivating for awhile so I'm once again playing around looking at grad schools. I think I found the program for me but dislike the need for 3 letters of recommendation in the application. One needs to come from a professor or someone familiar with my undergrad work. Ummm.....it's been 5 years. I think I can only remember one professor's name, and I don't know if she'd remember mine. I went to a huge school, understood stuff and didn't do things like go to office hours or ask questions in class. How am I supposed to get a letter of recommendation from a prof?
