Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #109: It's the Offseason, now what?

We're doing spring hockey strictly as available. Kid missed a game last night and will miss one Tuesday for traveling soccer practice and clinic. He was miffed 'cause playing hockey is more fun than practicing soccer. I told him he wanted to play traveling soccer and that's his priority now. During hockey season he only did soccer events as they fit in, same now going the other way.

Miffed? Yeah, I can just hear it now. Your kid is talking with one of his buddies and says, "You know Bobby, quite frankly, I'm miffed about having missed a hockey game last night onna counta the ol' man me making go to soccer practice." Yeah right, miffed.:p

Haven't posted around here in a couple months, so what have I missed.

First the earth cooled. And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes Benzes.

G'day Loj! It's been a few weeks, work trip to GA got in the way. So, was there a hockey game or something recently?

James Michener meets Vince Flynn. :D

I think there may be a step missing between dinosaurs becoming oil and Arabs buying Benzes.

That and it really didn't address the invention of hockey or beer. Major omissions if you ask me. :p

heh.

Just got off the phone with my Mum who might drive me straight over the edge. What grandmother tries amazingly hard and repetitively to convince someone just how bad their kid is at sports? I shake my head. No problem with a blindly proud grandparent here.

Latest conversation~ Lil is out of his league in lax, hockey and baseball. He has no depth perception. He is not going to ever be any good. He is too small. All the other kids are so much better, bigger and skilled than he is. She is sooooo glad he is not playing hockey next year and because he is so outclassed.  (She doesn't want him playing hockey because hockey players are hoodlums). We have already had a conversation where I told her he is not quitting but she has it stuck in her head. You wouldn't mind but she has never seen him play lax, she saw one game of hockey this past winter, and one baseball game last spring. We don't tell her to come because she spends the whole game pointing out all his deficiencies. Last week when she was driving him she told him she was sorry he wasn't going to make the track team because he isn't good enough. Thankfully he just ignores her and tells me she was being stupid again.

Sadly she really loves him like crazy. She needs more anti-depressant!

How did I ever survive with a semi-optimistic view of life? I must be genetically altered./ end rant. Phew, I had to get that off my chest.

I've been almost asleep at work for the last hour. I thought about going home, but don't want to fall asleep at the wheel.

I think I might just take a little nap here in my cube. I love my corner cube with no traffic.

I just realized that my Blackberry hasn't been charged since Friday night, and it still has 1/2 battery life. uutf!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #109: It's the Offseason, now what?

The whole 'not being able to get tickets for the baseball game' thing sucks. Never had that problem here, until now. When we went downtown for the game Friday night, we knew tickets would be crazy expensive, so we were going to wait until after the game started and hope that we could get some tickets for face value after the scalpers were scared they wouldn't be able to get rid of the tickets. Didn't work.

About 30 minutes before first pitch we walked from the plaza over to Kieran's Pub for drinks, asked scalpers how much, $100 each. Uhhh, no thanks. So we proceeded on to Kieran's, drank until right about first pitch, went back outside to try to get tickets. All the scalpers had left were singles, still $100-$125 each. So we said eff-it and went to Smalley's alley to watch the game. About mid-way through the second inning we walked from Smalley's over to Huberts for food (deep fried Lucy :D ), ran into a scalper on our way, he had 2 tickets, he still wanted $100 each for them, IT WAS THE SECOND INNING! We had fun without actually going to the game, but the game would have been better.

Oh, I was able to get 4 tickets for Tuesday night for face, unfortunately because of work I can't go. So MNS has the tickets now. Have fun guys, since I'm pretty sure it is going to be MNS, Sloe, Bakunin and Brent going to the game. Tickets were $32 each, if you guys decide to pay me. ;) :p

Welcome to life with a decent team and a nice (and/or historic) ballpark. :o It's unfortunate, but true, re: tickets.
Doesn't matter. The Patriots Day game is very similar to Opening Day. People plan for it, especially if they have the day off. It's quite the party atmosphere given that the marathon runs through Kenmore Sq as the game let's out. Now, if they still played those early April weekday games, and I took the day off, then I could probably get a face value or less ticket.
Yup - though I wouldn't have wanted to sit through today's game...woof! Not a great start for the Sox this season.

Morning, kids! No school today because of Patriot's Day. Spent the day at tcbg's house doing homework, coming up with a plan for my summer classes (the plan includes taking a class at BC!!! ), and trying to figure out how I'm going to get home for my sister's college graduation from Penn State in May. Quiet weekend for the most part. Went to tcbg's mom's house for dinner last night and got to play Guitar Hero: Smash Hits (well, watch, as I don't play GH). Otherwise, just quiet, which is a nice change.

Edit - CONGRATS! to SG for the job!! :)

Are you going to bathe repeatedly after you get out of class?

Probably! I'd be taking Microbiology there!! :p This is all assuming that I can get into the classes that I need to take. Right now, I was just having trouble finding schools that offer what I need during the summer. (I plan to be taking classes at BU, Simmons, and BC.) I'll be done in early August, so I then I can get on the stick for looking for a job. Very exciting, but still some work to be done. (Schools are all closed today, obviously, so I can't call to inquire about getting into the specific classes.)
