Yes! I read the whole thing. How did you find that?

A friend who is friends with him on facebook told me about it on Saturday night. It's Excellent - He's got quite a sense of humor! :)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 103: The Greatest Rep... to this point.

Comparing atmosphere between the X and Mariucci is blasphemous. Mariucci's atmosphere must overcome 3000 old people who make no noise at all, and against teams not named UND, UW, or SCSU, about 2000 empty corporate seats.

When UND and MN meet in the X, the arena is packed with loud and often inebriated people. The 2007 title game involving these schools was the best F5 atmosphere I've ever experienced.

I was talking about a game against a team named UND. I also don't see the atmosphere for a Thursday play-in game against two teams that haven't had good seasons being the same as a Saturday championship game against two good teams.

Atmosphere is a function of who is involved - and the simple fact is DU brings like ten fans to the X. MN and UND have the biggest following, so if they are both involved, there are more fans and thus a louder building.

I guarantee that a title game involving Denver will not compare favorably with a game involving MN-UND (or MN-UW / UND-UW). If Denver could figure out a way to get a couple thousand fans to travel to St. Paul, things might be different.

FYI, if there are any lodgers that aren't watching the USA-Canada game, you are missing out on some sweet hockey...

Absolutely phenomenal hockey:)

GO USA, but I still want to see Russia/Canada...talk about good hockey..

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 103: The Greatest Rep... to this point.

They can play for bronze.

The US can play Sweden for gold.

I like that idea.

Is it me, or do the Canada fans boo every call made against them?

EDIT: I hate Crosby.

I'm just saying that if it happens, a Gopher-Sioux match-up in the play-in game wouldn't be a "must-see" event like Gopher-Sioux match-ups in years past might have been.

I'm not saying it is in terms of the hockey (both are mediocre). I'm saying it is in terms of an outsider coming in and seeing two rivals go at it with huge fanbases in attendance. Plus one or both might be on the NCAA bubble for that game - adding a little extra tension to the mix.

Yep. You just don't miss UND-MN in the "post-season." You just don't.

Gopher fans have enough trouble showing up on time for Friday games, so I'm skeptical about how a Thursday game would be. I'm also skeptical about North Dakota's fanbase coming out en masse if they'd have to miss at least two days of work/school for potentially only one game.

I'm definitely back on the "I effing love hockey!" bandwagon....

They showed up pretty well for last year's play-in vs. UMD.

And there's a lot of UND alumni in the twin cities.

Clearly you are unfamiliar with the F5. People take time off of work for this, no matter who's in it. They look forward to it every year.

And like Bakunin said, Mariucci (while a nice arena) is a morgue compared to MN-UND (or MN-WI) at the F5. I echo his sentiment about the title game a couple years ago; that was insane. Can't say it will happen this year, but it could.

Any which way, people will jam the building for a MN-UND matchup, and for the most part it will be noisy rowdy people: Gopher haters (any non-Gopher WCHA team's fans), and Gopher lovers.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 103: The Greatest Rep... to this point.

A lot of Gopher fans at the F5 are not at Mariucci during the season - due to the wait list / lack of desire to buy off the street / hatred of the SRO nonsense / cost. This fuels the loudness as it is the event of the season for them.

Atmosphere-wise, the best outcome would be for the winner of a UND-MN play-in to go against UW in the title game - due to the huge rivalry between the three teams combined with the fact that UW also travels well.

Correct. I don't really go to Mariucci, mostly due to cost, but I will never miss a non-3rd place MN game at the F5. It's like a season's worth of anticipation and excitement that is unleashed that weekend for MN games. Add to that the hatred for UND/WI......I believe the expression is "boom goes the dynamite." :D
