Re: Rep Lodge 80: In a row?

Ask John Daly.

Yeah. He'll give you a beer.
I don't know if it was covered on national news, but here in the TC one of the stations did a short piece on Daly shooting a practice round wearing these pants. He had some of the Mn Twins with him as well. Smoke hanging out of his mouth, crazy trou, hadn't shaved for several days - He looked awesome :D. On one of the middle holes, he just handed the driver to Nick Punto and said "Why don't you take the shot". Punto (luckily) nailed it for him. :D

Re: Rep Lodge 80: In a row?

So today at work we had an employee/customer appreciation day which included a barbecue. I didn't know I was "nominated" by the monkey's to man the grill today. I flipped pork chops from 12:30 - 2 on a charcoal grill about 3x15. Approximately 500 chops. Good thing it was sunny hot humid weather and I was wearing black dress pants and a dress shirt. F N A I am still trying to cool down. I knew there was a good reason to keep a suit in my office closet.

I also found out I was nominated to take all the monkey's down to the local watering hole and buy them a couple rounds of drinks. (about 35 monkey's total)

What you REALLY needed in the office closet was a pair of shorts and a t-shirt :p

Re: Rep Lodge 80: In a row?

So, when we do a book, quite often we get a copy from the publisher. It's handy for when we work on the next edition, and sometimes nice to see the results of our work (also nice to get an idea of how the stuff we do translates to the printed book). Because of my level of involvement with a recent series of programming books, I get my own copies of said books. I'm not sure what the company policy on reading them (i.e. taking them home, using the sealed CDs in the back, etc), so I asked my supervisor. She hemmed, and said that she has to ask the big boss, with the insinuation that me learning a programming language might better me, but not "help the company", so it might not be allowed. Yes, my boss actively tries to prevent us from improving ourselves and leaving. I *ing hate this place.

I'm going home and taking a shower.

Annoying, and a good reason to keep one eye open if something better comes along. On the other hand, given the economy of late, be glad you're getting a regular paycheck.

It was so hot outside today I was making my own gravy.

Shirley Temples? Probably not. The bar tab including tip should be interesting. I am really glad I didn't go watch a bunch of hacks chase around a little white ball today. ;) Today has been so full of win. Not!

This is true, but I'm just sick of the crap I have to deal with to get this one. It's a small, family-run company, but I feel like the employees get treated like cattle. Pretty much the only time our work gets acknowledged is when we make a mistake*, and even when it's not our fault, we get chewed out (90% of our customers are absolute dicks, and pretty much hate us, for some reason).

*I'm also a little irked that we spend WAY more time running around and trying to figure out who to blame rather than trying to fix the problem. I've worked here for five years, and I still have trouble with this. We get e-mails saying something went wrong, and I immediately start trying to fix it, when what I'm supposed to be doing is figuring out who screwed up and why. The "why" part could help avoid the problem in the future, but it really seems like all these people care about is who to blame. Let's just fix it, move on, and try not to make that mistake in the future. Things would run a lot more smoothly. I kinda thought we were supposed to be a team. All of this blame-game bull* just leads to individualism.

That was more of a rant than I intended. Sorry.

No sweat on the rant. And family run companies - if the family is good the job is usually good, and if not, the job sucks.

I liked my summer job with a family run company. Granted, it was just the summers when I was in college. That family was awful though. My first day the other hired college student and I got to hear the father explain how we should avoid his daughter and that she was caught doing a guy in the janitor closet at high school (the girl was 15). Rumors from the full time employees were that the dad was abusive.

Not so great family. But I liked the job.

Re: Rep Lodge 80: In a row?

I just want to say that taking care of people today sucked. (rest of rant in the healthcare thread- and it is a beauty) I think I need to become independently wealthy. That is all.

Nurses don't deserve such a pleasant fate. :p
